Disappointing Changes for a Magic Kingdom Restaurant
Choosing the restaurants you want to eat at during your Disney World vacation can be a large part of the planning process. It is also one of the most fun! Here is some Disney dining news that will help you plan your next visit, and it may disappoint you.
Magic Kingdom Dining
The Magic Kingdom has several sit-down and quick-service options to choose from along with a ton of snacks! From eating in Cinderella's or the Beast's Castle to enjoying a spring roll in Adventureland, you definitely will not go hungry while visiting the most popular theme park in the entire world.
For table-service meals, there is Tony's Town Square, The Plaza Restaurant, Crystal Palace, Skipper Canteen, Liberty Tree Tavern, Cinderella's Royal Table, and Be our Guest. Quick-service options include Casey's, Columbia Harbour House, Cosmic Ray's, Pinocchio Village Haus, and Pecos Bill (to name a few).
One of these restaurants appears to be going through several menu changes!
Tony's Town Square Restaurant
When you first enter Magic Kingdom, Tony's Town Square is on your right. It is located right next to the Town Square Theater where you can meet Mickey Mouse. Themed after the movie Lady and the Tramp, Tony's serves classic Italian dishes like spaghetti, fettuccine Alfredo, and tiramisu.
While many do not care for Tony's - citing it as an over-priced Olive Garden - I don't mind it all that much. You can read Susan's review of the restaurant HERE.
Changes
There are several menu changes to note. According to the official Disney World website, the pizza options are now off the menu. You can't even find it on the kid's menu! Yikes.
Additionally, the Roman-style steak is replaced with a Butcher's steak. For appetizers, there is now an option to purchase bread for the table for $11 and caprese is no longer available.
I think the biggest change is the fact that the bread is no longer free. Servers used to bring it out at the beginning of your experience, but now you will have to pay for it. It seems the number of free things at Disney World is shrinking.
We are unsure how recent these changes are, but we hope it helps you as you plan your next trip to Disney World.

This is one of our favorite places to eat. Kind Staff, a relaxing and cool place to chill, and good food. Overpriced? but isn't everything at Disney more? I'll pay extra for the bread to have with my salad and my daughter will just have to skip the pizza and go for the meatless spaghetti. Is what it is and it's worth it for a decent meal and a more relaxed sit-down lunch.

As someone who used to work there. I am happy for those who still do work there. You have know idea how many families buy one pizza to split and the first question they ask is “You guys still do unlimited free bread right?” It’s expensive to eat in any theme park. It’s expensive to eat out anywhere. You know how you avoid that? Don’t go out!
Pay for a bread basket? Oh, the horror! Most restaurants these days charge for bread separately unless it is some place like Logan's that uses its rolls as a draw to get customers in the door. We either skip bread or pay for it if we really want it, like the $7 garlic bread at Il Mulino. We have also compared off site dining prices with on site, and sometimes on site is cheaper for similar or better versions of the dishes we order! Plus there is the time factor, which is certainly worth something to me.
I went once and it was just ok. With these changes I will NEVER go back. I was a Disney pass holder pre Covid and a Disney fanatic. It is disappointing the direction they are taking with everything and have no motivation to return.
This is why we eat off grounds where we can get much better value for our money. Disney knows it has a captive audience with people who don't have cars, so they will continue to charge more for less. Why? Because they can.
Most people don't realize the cost of throwing away so much of the "free" bread. in the long run this saves the customer because the bread doesn't have to be covered by other items in the menu...no restaurant gives "free" bread. Its all included some where...20 year chef here..
Also...stop needing bread with every meal expecting the restaurant to give you a free app...and also do we really all need more bread...just saying...
Also its ok if Disney is for only wealthier people and people that plan well....not everything is for everyone. And if you think everyone should be allowed everywhere....then your delusional
Go Di$ney go! Keep taking things away and charging more for less. Pretty pathetic
I think the Disney Family vacation days are finished and only the truly wealthy can afford a week or more stay. The cost of meals, lodging, tickets, Genie +, lightning lanes,etc. prevents average families from staying more than two to three days the cost of which could have gotten them two full weeks elsewhere including meals !
I think Walt Disney, is rolling over in his grave, with the way his parks are turning out!!

They will charge for drink refills next. You may have the option to rent a fork or spoon, and with an additional charge you could upgrade from a plastic one to a metal one.
Oh trust me you were paying for the bread. The only difference now is what was included for a cost in the price of the food. you now have the pleasure of paying $11 for bread lol. People are so gullible.
Next thing you know, Di$ney will be charging to use the rest rooms. And it won’t be with coins or bills, you’ll need to use the app to gain aces.
I think menu changes are the least of the concerns regarding Disney, at this point…
