DVC’s latest project is well underway and moving along nicely. We have an update on the tower at Disney’s Polynesian Resort that will probably make most of you very happy!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a deluxe Magic Kingdom Area resort in Walt Disney World. One of the 1971 original resorts, the Polynesian is a popular place to stay with convenient transportation to the Magic Kingdom, unique theming, and great views of Seven Seas Lagoon.

The last few years have featured a great deal of change at the Polynesian, one of Walt Disney World’s flagship resorts.  We have seen a Moana room makeover, DVC room refreshesclub level enhancements, and a new entrance and monorail platform.

New Milestone Reached For DVC Expansion At Polynesian

Early last year there was announcement of a DVC expansion at the resort. Currently, there are only studio (which sleep 5) and bungalow DVC accommodations at the Polynesian. Hopefully we will see a mixture of 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom villas in this new accommodation that would bring the Polynesian offerings in line with other DVC properties.

The DVC expansion shown in the concept art above will take over much of the area in between the Polynesian and Grand Floridian where the Spirit of Aloha theatre previously stood.

Happy Update

At the DVC Condo Association meeting, which took place just yesterday, we learned that the new DVC tower will be part of the existing Polynesian contract!

This means that Members who currently own at the Polynesian will be able to book accommodations at the new tower. It also means they will have 11-month priority booking. A separate contract will not be necessary.

Another angle to look at this is for new Polynesian DVC Members. If they buy into it now, they will be able to book both tower rooms and “original” rooms.

In my opinion, the Polynesian does not have enough DVC rooms or options. There are only three buildings of dedicated DVC rooms and the 8 bungalows. Having the same contract for both areas will greatly benefit owners and renters.

Resale Contracts

Additionally, resale buyers will not run into the same issues they do at Riviera Resort. For resale contracts at all Disney Resorts that are not Riviera, you can use your DVC points at any DVC resort that existed prior to Riviera.

You cannot use points purchased this way at Riviera or any future DVC resorts. By having the tower as part of the existing Polynesian contract and not its own contract, this will alleviate the concerns of resale buyers.

Michael This was happening well before the pandemic. IMO it started when Disney began constructing high-rise hotels they passed off as DVC venues and was exacerbated when people started "renting" their points with no pushback.

More DVC rooms lately seems to translate to less availability. Either they are overselling shares or using the DVC to cash room switches more than they should be. No matter. I'm not looking forward to it. All of the spontaneity of DVC is gone.

Totally agree!

Lack of inventory in 2023 was/is a direct result of pandemic. Owners couldn't/wouldn't use their points for a year or more. Compounded with no AP sales for extended period. And almost everyone rolling their points into the last 18 months. Perfect storm. It will balance out in 2024 pending another global pandemic. JK…I hope.
