The worst of the hurricane is set to arrive in Florida tonight and tomorrow. Here are the first closures announced for Disney World.
Hurricane Idalia
We just saw Hurricane Hilary hit Disneyland in California recently, and now Hurricane Idalia is expected to affect Disney World this week.
This week will no doubt be a rainy week for guests visiting Florida and Walt Disney World. Prepare with ponchos or rain gear, stroller covers, and a flexible plan during the wetter seasons. This is especially true during the summer and hurricane season.
Right now, Disney is still operating under normal conditions. However, they did activate a cancelation policy for Guests affected this week. You can read about that HERE.
At this time, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of August 28, 2023 through September 4, 2023.
Closures
The worst of the hurricane is set to hit Florida later tonight and into tomorrow. As such, Disney World is beginning to announce closures. First, earlier today they shared that guests staying at Fort Wilderness need to put away certain things.
Now, they will close Typhoon Lagoon water park and the miniature golf courses on property tomorrow, August 30. Typhoon Lagoon has a cool beach vibe. Guests enjoy a tropical paradise previously hit by a typhoon. The theme is well executed and will make you feel like you’re spending the day at the beach!
Fantasia Gardens & Fairways Miniature Golf are located in the Epcot resort area by the Swan and Dolphin. There are actually two courses there.
As the name suggests, the Fantasia Gardens course is themed after the Disney film Fantasia. It is filled with obstacles reminiscent of the film. Fantasia Fairways is a bit more of a traditional mini golf course.
Disney will close Typhoon Lagoon water park and the miniature golf courses on property tomorrow, August 30.
Other Precautions
Right now, the rest of the resort is operating as normal. As we have shared, the worst of the hurricane will be in the Panhandle. Expect a lot of rain and wind, but there will likely not be any park closures or shelter in place warnings. Of course, we will continue to update if things change.
If you reside in/are visiting Florida this week, stay safe!
