Tropical Storm Idalia is making its way for Florida. If you do not feel comfortable traveling to Disney World this week, here is what you need to know if you cancel.
Disney’s Statement Regarding Tropical Storm Idalia
This week will no doubt be a rainy week for guests visiting Florida and Walt Disney World. Prepare with ponchos or rain gear, stroller covers, and a flexible plan during the wetter seasons. This is especially true during the summer and hurricane season.
Walt Disney World posted the following statement today, August 28th at 3:00 pm: “Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating under normal conditions. We are closely monitoring the path of the projected weather as we continue to prioritize the safety of our guests and Cast Members.”
Disney’s “Typical” Cancelation Policy
If you booked your resort directly through Disney they will waive cancellation fees. If you need to delay a trip or leave early they will work with you. Not only does this apply to hotel reservations, it also includes dining reservations and Enchanted Extras.
Any theme park tickets that were supposed to be used during a park closure will result in an extension of the ticket expiration. For Hurricane Ian, Disney extended the expiration for partially used or unused tickets to September 30, 2023. Special events that were to take place during a park closure will also result in a full refund sent back to your original form of payment.
Policy Activated
Disney is preparing early by activating a cancelation policy. It reads:
Guests may reschedule their trip or cancel their stay with us; any customary cancelation fees will be waived.
They do not specify which dates are eligible or if the dining/ticket refund policy is in effect. Disney has always been great about giving refunds for these types of things (including special events, so we are watching for Tuesday night’s Halloween party). So, just call Disney but expect a longer wait time than normal.
Q: Will I be responsible for any cancellation or change fees or other amounts if a hurricane warning is issued within 7 days of my arrival date?
A: If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area—or for your place of residence—within 7 days of your scheduled arrival date, you may reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney Travel Company Disney Resort hotel packages and most room only reservations (booked directly with Disney) without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney. Most room-only and vacation packages can be modified, or cancelled online, including changes to travel dates.

I was told that special tickets(military tickets) had to be used by the end of the year! Last year Hurricane Ian…we lost 2 days due to parks being closed. We plan our trips and there was no way we could return before end of the year! AND no one offer to extend our tickets!
