Rare Backstage Pass to Festival of the Lion King
This is where the real Disney magic happens! Join us as we step backstage for a real "Circle of Life" moment for the most popular Disney Park's show "Festival of the Lion King."
Festival of the Lion King

In the past, one of my "must-do" experiences in Disney's Animal Kingdom was to attend at least one showing of the Festival of the Lion King. In my (Donna) opinion, this is simply the best show throughout all of the Walt Disney World.
I loved the camaraderie as everyone in your seating section was given an animal sound to make during various times of the show. The beautifully colored costumes coupled with the dynamic performances made this show seem as though you were enjoying a Broadway musical.
Walt Disney used the term of "plussing" which means you take a great idea to the next level. I felt as though the Festival of the Lion King was a beautiful illustration of this "plussing" principle. The entire show was fantastic, but in the grand finale it seemed as they layered one fantastic performance upon another.
Behind the Scenes of Festival of the Lion King

My (Donna) son's favorite part of Festival of the Lion King is when the "Fire Night Dancer" takes the stage. There is fire, juggling blades, and even breathing fire. This show really has it all!
Now we can step behind the curtain and hear more from the talented "Fire Night Dancer" Alema. Not only does Alema wow guests during 3 to 4 Festival of the Lion King performances daily, but he also comes from a rich history with the Walt Disney Company.
Alema's dad also captivated guests during the Festival of the Lion King and he remembers visiting the stage to see his dad perform when he was younger. Now as he takes the stage he is already teaching his young sons (ages 3 and 1) the beautiful art of "Fire Night Dance". (Don't worry, no fire is used in their practices...just yet)
The Beauty of "Fire Night Dance"

Alema shares the magic behind his performances. What many of us (okay maybe just me) have wondered is "how do they light the baton on fire?" They attach hush board that serves as a thermal insulated panel. This board is then soaked in kerosine.
Alema follows in his dad's footsteps as a "Fire Night Dancer" in the Festival of the Lion King
The key element to keep himself safe is "practice, practice, and trusting the preparation". Alema shares that his favorite part of performing is in the beginning when he lights the fire, there is no better feeling than the excitement the guests express during this moment.
