Refurbishments are nothing new at Disney World. The company is always trying to improve upon the guest experience. Unfortunately, to make improvements long term there are inconveniences in the short term. Construction noises, closures, and limited experiences can make for a less-than-magical experience during the process.

Recently guest rooms in the main tower of the Contemporary resort underwent an Incredibles-themed refurbishment. We also have a new restaurant that has been getting great reviews from our KtP writers here and here.

Recently Heather shared updates on pool refurbishments that will be occurring at the resort. There appears to be another refurbishment happening at the Contemporary right now.

The Contemporary Resort is made up of three distinct areas. First, there is the main tower that features guest rooms, restaurants, and the Grand Canyon Concourse that famously has the monorail running through it. Second, you have the Disney Vacation Club rooms in Bay Lake Tower that features its own pool area and amenities for guests staying in the tower. Finally, there is the Garden Wing which is found adjacent to the main tower.

Currently, the Garden Wing is closed for refurbishment. Over the last week and a half some rooms have been affected, but right now the entire area is closed off to guests. This refurbishment is not on the Contemporary section of the Disney Website. On the screenshot of the pop-up below, you can see only the pool refurbishments from Heather's post are shown. It does not include information on the Garden Wing.

Guests at the Contemporary that are looking to use the laundry services at the Garden Wing are not able to right now. Signs outside the Garden Wing are directing guests to the Bay Lake Tower Laundry facilities. We do not have any word on how long the refurbishment will take place.

How will this affect your stay?

So what does this mean for guests that had rooms booked in the Garden Wing? Disney is moving guests to the main tower or booking them at another Magic Kingdom resort. Typically, rates are cheaper in the Garden Wing than in the main tower.

In this case, this ends up being a nice upgrade for guests and a case where the refurbishment worked out in their favor. Going from the garden wing to a theme park or bay view in the main tower is a nice step up!

    1. So far in the rooms that are open it does not appear that they are Incredibles themed in the Garden Wing. Looks like a 1970’s contemporary theme (makes sense haha).

  1. We haven’t been in the room much during the day but when we were we can’t hear any construction. The impact is only the entrance from the garden wing parking lot is open, and the section with the laundry room is still closed. From what we can see it looks like finishing touches/soft goods are what is happening in the unopened areas. The renovations are incredibles themed. Look like the photos from the main tower rooms except I heard those were tile with a rug under the beds. These are carpeted but all new carpeting. Hope that helps everybody

  2. Thank you for the update!!! Are you able to hear/see the construction that is still going on in the Garden Wing? How are the renovations?

  3. Well great! Hope to have a room available by May then. I hope the construction doesn’t impact your stay. Let us know!

  4. Hi, an update for all those booked in the garden wing. we checked in last night and are in the garden wing. Parts of it are still closed for refurbishment. A CM told us a block of the rooms just reopened, we were the first guests in our room.

  5. Any updates on this? We're going in a week and I can't get a straight answer from anyone at Disney as to whether the renovation is ongoing and/or whether our rooms are impacted.

    1. Hi Kate! The Garden Wing is still under construction as of today 3/31. From everything I am hearing this could last until May/June. It's very likely that you will be moved to the main tower once you arrive next week. It seems like guests that receive a phone call ahead of time are the ones who are moving to Polynesian or Grand Floridian. Otherwise, the rest are being notified upon check in. Enjoy your trip!

  6. Have a conference scheduled at contemporary in mid May with a room confirmed in garden wing. Crossing fingers to get an upgrade as I am hoping construction won’t impact the overall experience but was pretty content with the idea of staying on the lower level of the garden wing.

  7. There has been nothing official from Disney, but unofficially I have heard late Spring (May/early June). That also matches what is available on the Disney website to book. I think it is likely you will be moved the first week of April

  8. I have a stay booked in the garden wing the first week of April. I was unaware the refurbishment was currently happening. Do you think they will start opening completed garden wing rooms by then? Or is it likely I’ll be moved?
