Magic Kingdom Attraction Set to Close Again After Lengthy Refurbishment
Walt Disney World just announced that this Magic Kingdom attraction will close for a refurbishment after undergoing a pretty big closure not that long ago. See how this may affect your next trip.
Disney World Refurbishments
Refurbishments are a part of life at Disney Parks. These may take place for various reasons. Whether it be for mechanical issues or cosmetic updates, a refurbishment can take place for many reasons.
Based on the nature of the work, the refurbishment may take a few days or several months. Although refurbishments occur throughout the year, Walt Disney World tends to begin many refurbishments in the slower months of January and February.
What is even more puzzling is when an attraction finally reopens after a refurbishment and still experiences extended closures.
Astro Orbiter Closure
Astro Orbiter is located in Tomorrowland at Disney's Magic Kingdom Park. It is a Dumbo-style spinner attraction that will whisk you high into the sky. The attraction closed for a multi-month refurbishment on January 13, 2025, and finally reopened on June 27th.
The entire attraction was dismantled and later reassembled. Unfortunately, this large refurbishment was short-lived, as the attraction suffered extended downtime in July 2025.
According to guests and Cast Members, the main lift was not operational for the Astro Orbiter. This lift raises and lowers the attraction; the Astro Orbiter was only raising to half the height that guests previously enjoyed.
Astro Orbiter Closing
Thankfully, the Astro Orbiter finally became more reliable and functioned properly. However, Walt Disney World just announced that Astro Orbiter will close for another refurbishment on January 5, 2027.
Disney anticipates that Astro Orbiter will reopen on January 8, 2027. Walt Disney World reserves the right to make changes to operating hours as needed without notice.
Astro Orbiter will close for a brief refurbishment on January 5, 2025.
We hope that this refurbishment will be brief after being closed for a large portion of 2025.
