Cold Weather Hits Disney World and Universal Orlando, Closing 20+ Attractions

Florida is seeing some of the coldest weather it has seen in years. See how this weather is impacting Disney World and Universal Orlando theme parks.

This month has been plagued with winter weather advisories and warnings for Central Florida. Impacting Guests with operational changes, which includes park closures at both Typhoon Lagoon and Volcano Bay.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch for Central Florida which started Saturday, January 31st evening and ending the afternoon of Sunday, February 1st.

Wind chills are predicted to be at 7°. According to meteorologists at WESH2, "By Sunday morning, temperatures may plunge into the mid to upper 20s across much of Central Florida, creating some of the coldest weather seen in a decade."

Disney had already adjusted operational hours for two of its water rides, Kali River Rapids and Tiana's Bayou Adventure. You can see the adjusted hours of operations HERE.

Florida theme parks took precautions by covering plants and flower beds ahead of the cold.

Disney World also advised campers at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground how to prevent frozen pipes. You can see that warning HERE.

Temporarily Closed Attractions!

At the time of this writing, Universal Orlando Resort currently has over 15 attractions not open due to a Weather Delay. You can find these attractions listed on the Universal FL app.

Disney World also had 10 outdoor attractions listed as temporarily closed this morning. Disney did not share the reasoning for the multiple closures. Fortunately, some of these attractions have begun to open. The current temperature in Orlando is 30 degrees with a feel of 18 degrees!

Fox 35 Orlando, reported last week that park experts said cold temperatures could impact outdoor ride operations. They even shared that per manufacture settings some rides can't operate below 50 degrees, while some can't operate below 40 degrees! Hopefully things will warm up soon, so Guests can enjoy all the attractions at these parks.
