Disney World Now Increasing Safety Measures
We noticed some additional safety measures throughout Walt Disney World. Find out the reason for this added concern for Guests.
Disney Extreme Cold Weather Watch

Many do not often consider cold weather warnings and winter weather advisories when visiting "Florida: the Sunshine State", but this month has been plagued with them.
Temperatures are expected to rise today, January 30, 2026, but then prepare for extremely cold weather this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch for all of Walt Disney World starting Saturday, January 31st evening and ending the afternoon of Sunday, February 1st.
Wind chills are predicted to be at 7°. According to meteorologists at WESH2, "By Sunday morning, temperatures may plunge into the mid to upper 20s across much of Central Florida, creating some of the coldest weather seen in a decade."
Disney World Safety Increased

In order to prepare for this icy, arctic blast, Cast Members are working tirelessly to cover many plants and flower beds at the Walt Disney World Theme Parks. Guests have also shared images of Cast Members removing select plants and covering fountains and landscapes at Walt Disney World Resorts.
Due to the cold temps, Cast Members scattered salt to the many bridges throughout Walt Disney World. These bridges would quickly become icy this weekend.
Along with these preparations, characters will likely wear additional layers while greeting Guests.
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon is closed Saturday, January 31st; Sunday, February 1st; and Monday, February 2nd due to cold weather. Typhoon Lagoon is expected to reopen on Tuesday, February 3rd (operating hours subject to change).
Disney World Cold Weather Tips

If you will be visiting this weekend or when cooler weather is expected, we recommend prioritizing your Lightning Lane selections for attraction queues located outdoors. You may also need to create a realistic park plan. Some outdoor attractions could be temporarily closed due to cooler temps.
This Sunday, Central Florida will experience the coldest weather in a decade.
Pack cool-weather gear such as a heavy coat/gloves/hats/scarfs. My (Donna) family likes to rent a large locker (available at all Parks) to store cooler weather gear when the temperatures get a little warmer. This keeps our hands free, and then we can still access our cool-weather gear when the sun sets and the temperatures drop.
One reader shared her tip to wear wool socks to help keep her feet warm while standing on cold concrete. We can't wait to try out this tip!
