Closure Affects TRON at Magic Kingdom
This is the Magic Kingdom closure that we were not expecting. See how this may affect your next experience entering the grid aboard TRON Lightcycle/Run.
TRON Ares Overlay

TRON is an incredibly popular attraction at Magic Kingdom that officially opened on April 4, 2023. Guests can either wait in the traditional standby line or purchase the Lightning Lane Single Pass for this attraction.
This September, both TRON attractions (Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and Shanghai Disneyland) will receive a fun Ares overlay. See full details of this new change HERE.
TRON received an industrial look and a new soundtrack featuring Nine Inch Nails, and it received a whole new look, too!
TRON Ares Overlay End Date

The overlay switched up TRON's familiar blue glow. It will turn the attraction red with pulsating, glowing lights to propel the coaster as it follows orange trails of light.
TRON Ares was not quite the blockbuster hit that the Walt Disney Company had hoped for. It is currently available for purchase or for rent on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home. It will also stream on Disney+ soon.
It is the speculation of many that the TRON Ares overlay will end soon after it arrives on Disney+. If this is the case, the original TRON will return in January 2026.
TRON Experience Closing

The newly imagined Tomorrowland Launch Depot opened alongside TRON and offers many unique items to continue the immersive storytelling of the attraction. One such experience is the TRON Identity Program.
TRON Identity Program is now removed from Walt Disney World.
This experience suffered several technical difficulties, and Disney offered deep discounts. We were worried that this may close similar to the Pandora experience at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
Today, the TRON Identity Program has been removed from the Walt Disney World website, and new permits have been filed for this space. It is unclear what may replace this experience.
