Disney is making plenty of adjustments to a classic story to bring the live-action retelling to life. Now, Ariel is getting brand-new sisters, and we have the casting details for who will play them.
The Live-Action Little Mermaid
Disney’s The Little Mermaid (1989), which recently earned a place in the National Film Registry, is the next classic animated film in line to see its live-action remake’s theatrical release come to fruition. Its release date is set for May 26, 2023.
The movie’s cast includes stars like Halle Bailey (Ariel), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Daveed Diggs (Sebastian), and Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric.) And, we have more casting news! We also know who will be playing Ariel’s sisters!

A Big Name Change
Ariel’s new movie is bringing along with it a new set of sisters! In the 1989 Disney animated version of the story, King Triton’s 7 daughters all share one commonality. You may have noticed in the Daughters of Triton song that each of them has a name starting with the letter “A.” They are Ariel, Atina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, Andrina.
However, in the new movie, the names are getting a bit of a makeover. The new sisters are: Caspia, Indira, Perla, Karina, Mala, and Tamika.
Some of you Disney super-sleuths out there may have found these names on the packaging for toys in the live-action merchandise release. However, others may have discovered the names in some of the books released ahead of the film.
We now have the details on who will bring these new mermaids to life, too. IMDB has confirmed the details.
New Mermaid Actresses
Here is the casting line-up for Ariel’s sisters: Sienna King (Tamika), Karolina Conchet (Mala), Nathalie Sorrell (Caspia), Kasja Mohammarc (Karina), Lorena Andrea (Perla), and Simone Ashley (Indira). You may already know Simone Ashely from her work on Bridgerton!
The picture of Ariel and her sisters comes from a merch promotion over on Target’s website. However, it gives moviegoers an idea of each sister’s unique style.
There is a Daughters of Triton Song planned for the new movie. It will certainly need a lyric change from the Daughters of Triton song in the 1989 version.
