Attraction Closures
Refurbishments may take place for various reasons. Whether it be for mechanical issues or cosmetic updates, a refurbishment is needed to ensure the best experience for Guests. Based on the nature of the work, the closure may be a few days or several months.
Several Disneyland attractions have undergone refurbishment along with quite a few others. One of the other many refurbishments that took place at Disneyland was Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. Recently Disneyland announced the reopening date for an extended refurbishment of Pirates of the Caribbean. Of course, there are also unexpected closures that catch us all by surprise.
Unexpected Closure
The California Adventure Park had a complete overhaul before its reopening in June 2012. One of the many great additions to this newly imagined park was Cars Land. This land transports Guests back to a simpler time as they take a trip down Route 66 and see iconic buildings from the Cars movies.
On May 24, various guests reported that the attraction had closed early due to a possible ride vehicle fire. Guests who were eyewitnesses reported that a ride vehicle had come to a stop right after the finish line while guests onboard were yelling to Cast Members to be left off the ride.
Since May 24th, Radiator Racers has not opened at Disney’s California Adventure.
A back bumper was reportedly misaligned, and black smoke came from the vehicle along with the smell of burning rubber. Guests on the vehicle were quickly evacuated from the vehicle. Since May 24th, Radiator Racers has not opened at Disney’s California Adventure.
Reopening Date Set
Although Disney has not shared additional details regarding this closure nor the cited fire, we have an opening date. On the Disneyland website, it shows that Radiator Racers is closed for today, June 2nd, but it shows operating hours from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm starting tomorrow, June 3rd.

After a ten-day closure, it will be great to have Lightning McQueen and his pals once again racing around Radiator Springs. We trust that all mechanical issues have been addressed and that this attraction will welcome guests during these busy summer months.
