Weather Forecast Discussion

High pressure that brought tranquil conditions to the area on Monday will retreat eastward as a storm system approaches from the Mississippi Valley.  Monday was a nice break after the active severe weather over the weekend that included a tornado watch, transportation closures, and even one ride getting struck by lightning.

This next storm system will push another frontal boundary through Florida later in the day Tuesday and Wednesday.  Another round of severe weather is possible with this system.  I’ll have more on the severe threat in the severe weather section below.

On the NOAA surface map you can see the low pressure over the Florida panhandle and the front pushing through the Gulf of Mexico with showers and thunderstorms ahead of it.

Tuesday should start out partly sunny, but by the evening showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop.  Any of the showers and thunderstorms that do develop will feature heavy downpours late Tuesday, Tuesday night, and Wednesday before we finally dry out for Thursday.

The next system could bring an isolated shower or thunderstorm on Friday as temperatures warm up again.

Severe Weather Chances For Florida

You can see on the map below from NOAA Storms Prediction Center that Orlando is included in the Marginal Risk for severe weather on Tuesday as the cold front meets the warm, moist air in place in Florida.

Over the last 24 hours, the trend on computer model guidance has been less supportive of severe weather development.  Let’s hope this trend continues, however, the risk is still there.

Keep an eye out for any warnings, and follow any cast member directions for seeking shelter.  Remember, any thunderstorm can produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours.

Flight Impacts

I added this category recently to point out any large-scale impacts on flights getting to and from Orlando. The struggles and impacts on the airline industry in the wake of the pandemic that led to flight cancellations have been well-documented. I’m focusing on the weather impacts.

The Southeast U.S. is the focus of possible flight delays on Tuesday and Wednesday as the low pressure and cold front bring showers and thunderstorms to the region.  This would include the Orlando-area airports.

By Thursday and Friday things are much quieter across the country.  The only minor spot would be Friday in the Ohio Valley as a storm system brings some rain showers.

A Look Ahead

An early look at the weekend shows Friday’s frontal boundary that will bring isolated showers and thunderstorms, hanging around for Saturday and Sunday. There will be the chance for a few showers on both Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the upper 80’s on Saturday, but will cool down to around 80 on Sunday with the front moving through.
