What are you doing on New Year’s Eve at Walt Disney World? If you are not sure, Disney has shared an update on the New Year’s Eve celebrations. Read on for all of the details!

New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve has been a popular event at Walt Disney World and Walt Disney World Resorts.

In fact, often times, the week of New Year’s has been considered to be “insane” if you follow our Crowd Calendar.

With many people off work and school for the holidays, it’s a popular time to visit the parks. Just look at all of the long wait times that took place on New Year’s Eve last year! Would you wait an hour to ride Winnie the Pooh?!

When I think of New Year’s Eve celebrations, I think of music, lots of crowd activity and especially fireworks. However, it’s 2020, need we be reminded?

Chances are, we will not be seeing all of the special events, fireworks and other celebrations that usually take place.

Park Hours

Today, Walt Disney World has given us an update on plans for New Year’s Eve this year.

We have previously shared extended park operating hours for all four theme parks through much of December.

Hours for December 6-12 can be found here.

December 13-19 park hours can be found here.

December 20-31 park hours can be found here.

However, on New Year’s Eve, all locations will close prior to midnight as the theme parks continue to follow health and safety measures to promote physical distancing.

All four theme parks will close prior to midnight on new year’s eve

New Year’s Eve Hours of Operation can all be seen here. Also, be sure to check Character Locator as the hours and Crowd Calendars are all up to date!

Hours for Disney Springs will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Walt Disney World Resort Celebrations

Walt Disney World has confirmed that while the celebrations will be different than what we are used to, fun and festive activities will still take place! Guests will be given more details on the celebrations and any fun events upon arrival.

Guests staying at resorts will be able to view pre-recorded firework displays and other holiday offerings on T.V. from the comfort of their hotel rooms. This most likely confirms that the normal firework displays in the theme parks will not take place.

If guests would like to purchase a New Year’s Eve party basket, those are also available! Read more about how you can pre-order baskets for special occasions here.

More information can also be found from Disney Floral & Gifts here. Baskets may be ordered online or via phone at 407-939-4438.

Will you be celebrating New Year’s Eve at Walt Disney World? Will you still plan to visit even without fireworks? Tell us about it in the comments below or on our Facebook page.

That's too bad about your tickets, but I hope you have a great trip ringing in the New Year with your family!

My daughter's bday is on New year's day. We are so excited about going with only 35% capacity and are fully aware of the COVID restrictions EVERYWHERE. Kudos to Disney and Florida for keeping the parks open and even letting us have this vacation. There is no better place to ring in 2021 than the happiest place on earth! I will gladly spend midnight with the family and ring in the new year and her birthday in our room. (If we make it in time... Yay that we get the extra hours in the parks!!!) Anyone complaining should have known a full celebration at midnight was not going to happen. Not this year and not in most places across the US.

I am more ticked that Disney is not offering alternatives to those of us that bought one park 7 day passes before the announcement of park hopping starting the 1st. Half my visit is in 2021 and they are making us buy park hoppers without a multiday discount. Its doubling the price of our tickets.

Yes but that is an absurd unachievable goal! I'm up here in New Jersey and I'm watching live streams seeing people congregate every single night under the castle for that small firework tease burst. And let's not forget the massive lines that are forming because there's no Fastpass Plus or ride cars being filled to capacity. Not everybody will congregate under the castle for the countdown, people will still be going on rides. I think this is utterly ridiculous! 8 thousand dollars trip to bring my family down there and we have to bring in the new year inside our hotel room? Dear goodness this is just wrong! Appreciate the responce and understand but I have to vent my frustration. This is just sillyness...

So lame, we have a trip scheduled for Christmas till the 1st and after the email yesterday’s email explaining this we’re seriously considering canceling… ONLY 1 HOUR SHY OF NEW YEARS THE PARK CLOSES?? Let me understand this, THE VIRUS WILL ATTACK AT MIDNIGHT??? So the park will be packed to capacity 35% ( we all know it’s higher) ALL DAY LONG BUT AT 11PM STAND CLEAR, COVID VIRUS WILL ATTACK!! It is so silly and absurd!!!

I believe the goal is to prevent that 35% from congregating in one central location.
