When the dreaded construction walls finally fell at EPCOT with the opening of CommuniCore Hall last summer, we hoped that we could enjoy several months with no big refurbishment plans.

Unfortunately, Test Track closed for a lengthy refurbishment, and is now finally scheduled to reopen. But, just when it looked like every attraction at EPCOT would be running once again, Disney dropped an announcement.

Last week, Walt Disney World announced that the Park’s great icon, Spaceship Earth, will be closing for a refurbishment. Let’s check out what we know so far for this closure.

Spaceship Earth Permit Filed

Spaceship Earth is set to close on August 25, 2025. Previously, Disney announced BIG plans to completely overhaul Spaceship Earth. You can see those plans here.

With a new permit filed it appears that this refurbishment will not include any of these big plans. The permit is simply for “General Construction” and the work will be completed by Engineering Design Solutions.

Typically, permits filed by Walt Disney World set an expiration date for a full calendar year. Although the permit expiration is set at June 30, 2026, Disney shares that Spaceship Earth will reopen later this year (2025).

Recently, EPCOT opened the adult-only GEO–82 Lounge located at the back of Spaceship Earth. It appears that the closure of Spaceship Earth will not affect operating hours for the GEO-82 Lounge.

The closure of Spaceship Earth may affect your touring plans and Lightning Lane selections. Be sure to check out the recent changes for the tiers of Lightning Lane selections at EPCOT HERE.
