New Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Reopening Timeline

"Hold onto your hats and glasses" this is the news we have been waiting for! After being closed for over a year, we finally have a reopening timeline for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Big Thunder Mountain Closure

A year-long refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad began on January 6, 2025. Work includes moving the tower and replacing some or all of the tracks. The final scene may also be upgraded.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Progress

On a recent trip to Magic Kingdom, we noticed a big push to complete work on the outdoor queue and entrance to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Guests noticed ride vehicle testing along with the large geyser special effect testing.

Disney Imagineers promised that effects that have been missing for several years will now be refreshed. The geysers are a great delivery on that promise.

Big Thunder Mountain Reopening

Today, Walt Disney World shared free Disney Dining Plan promotion, reopening timelines for several attractions, and a great 4-Day, 4-Park Magic Ticket deal.

Now, Walt Disney World promises that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen early May 2026. While a specific date is not yet provided, this is great news for Guests with upcoming trips planned.
