Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Will Reopen with Four Big Changes
The final countdown is on for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Walt Disney World. You will not believe all of the great new updates coming to this attraction.

A year-long refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad began on January 6, 2025. Work includes moving the tower and replacing some or all of the tracks. The final scene may also be upgraded.

Walt Disney World announced that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen in "Spring 2026". Although an exact date is not given, this is great news for guests planning ahead for Walt Disney World trips for late spring and summer.

Yesterday on Good Morning America, Disney Imagineers shared four exciting new updates for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Four Updates for Big Thunder Mountain

When Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens, keep your eyes peeled because you will see gold hidden throughout the attraction for the first time ever. Audio animatronics and effects that have been missing for several years will now be refreshed.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen with a full track replacement.
The attraction will feature all-new train cars that you can see HERE. You also don't want to miss our first glimpse of the beautiful "Rainbow Caverns".
