Reveal for New Tropical Americas Play Space

Reveal for New Tropical Americas Play Space

We were worried when Disney removed The Boneyard from Animal Kingdom. Will this be another attraction-themed takeover like at Toy Story Land?

One thing that Walt Disney disliked was distractions that entered the sightline of Disneyland. He wanted Guests to escape from the everyday concerns and be immersed in lands of magic, wonder, and adventure.

However, Walt Disney also never wanted Disneyland to be complete, which means all Disney Parks "Keep moving forward." This is, in fact, the current state of Disney's Animal Kingdom.

As DINOSAUR, along with the rest of DinoLand, closes this Sunday, February 1st, we have a new look for what is coming.

One area that Disney's Animal Kingdom Guests truly miss is the closing of The Boneyard. This fun outdoor playground closed on September 1, 2025.

Disney promised a new playground for Tropical Americas expansion, and this morning we have a first look.

Disney filed a new wastewater document, similar to our first look at Villains Land/Piston Peak, with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

This map (thanks to wdwmagic for sharing) shows us the proposed layout for Tropical Americas, including this new playground space.

The new playground (pictured above) will take over the current Cretaceous Trail, where Guests can meet Chip 'n' Dale and Daisy in their dinosaur-themed costumes. The former Boneyard playground will be transformed into an Encanto-themed carousel.

With so many changes coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom, we are thankful that a playground will return. My (Donna) kids still talk about how much fun they had exploring the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" playground at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

When I first heard plans to transform DinoLand, I was worried that the play space would be replaced with more attractions similar to Toy Story Land. This proposed map gives us hope that a new era of childhood exploration is coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Donna loved Disney from an early age. As a child, her family would joke that she lived in "Donna Land." As an adult, she enjoys planning and creating magical vacations for her family. She always brings a little faith, trust, and a little bit of Pixie Dust!
