Bob Iger returned as Disney CEO back in November 2022. Many were hopeful that many issues would be addressed with the return of Bob Iger.

At first, Iger signed a contract for two years. His return was expected to be short, but he wanted to stay around long enough to help the board "succeed at succession".

His contract was later extended and he agreed to continue as CEO through December 31, 2026. Iger is ready to retire…again but desires a smooth transition for the upcoming CEO.

The Succession Planning Committee was first formed in January 2023. It has and will continue working diligently to find the next CEO.

Back in June, we shared that Josh D'Amaro, Chairperson of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, was in the "pole position" to take over as CEO. In second, who was previously a frontrunner, was Dana Walden.

In a new report from the Wall Street Journal, it shares that Josh D'Amaro is in the lead to take over as the new CEO of Disney. However, Walden remains his leading rival. Sources say that D'Amaro and Walden have presented to the board their visions for the company if appointed as CEO.

It is believed that Disney will no longer look at external hires and will find Iger's replacement from within the company. The new CEO, once chosen, will work alongside Iger before officially taking over the company.

The committee also wants to make this as smooth of a transition as possible. Other executives who are not chosen as the CEO could see contract negotiations that include increase in responsibility and compensation to help retain them.

  1. Hopefully someone who has compassion for people who live with a disability! I can't return to Disney until then... and Mickey and Minnie miss my family!
