See Who is Now in Prime Position to Replace Iger

Iger's extended contract is coming to an end, and Disney needs to find someone to replace him. See who is in the lead to possibly replace Iger.

Bob Iger

Bob Iger returned as Disney CEO back in November 2022. Many were hopeful that many issues would be addressed with the return of Bob Iger.

At first, Iger signed a contract for two years. His return was expected to be short, but he wanted to stay around long enough to help the board "succeed at succession".

His contract was later extended and he agreed to continue as CEO through December 31, 2026. Iger is ready to retire…again but desires a smooth transition for the upcoming CEO.

The Succession Planning Committee was first formed in January 2023. It has and will continue working diligently to find the next CEO.

James P. Gorman was appointed as chair of the Succession Planning Committee. To read more about this committee click HERE.

The committee is considering both internal and external candidates to replace Bob Iger as CEO, but one candidate is in a prime position.

Josh D'Amaro

Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter shared an article, "Inside Hollywood's Successions Wars." This article shared that Josh D'Amaro, Chairperson of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, is in the "pole position" to take over as CEO.

The four heads up for consideration are: Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, Dana Walden; Chairman of ESPN, James Pitaro; the Chairman of Disney Experiences, Josh D'Amaro; and Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, Alan Bergman.

In second, who was previously a frontrunner, is Walden. She would be the Disney's first female CEO.

We are hopeful to hear who Disney's new CEO will be in early 2026. An announcement early in the year will give time for transition before Iger's contract is up.

  1. My recommendation would be to bring in someone from the outside. Iger has polluted the current leadership team. Between DeMaro and Walden, Josh is the better pic. He is the most guest-centric of any Disney senior leader and this is exactly what Disney needs to do to regain trust with their historically loyal customers. Walden is too political and I fear, a Bob Iger clone, exactly who Disney does NOT need. Whomever takes over has much work ahead to rebuild the magic and customer trust.

I am looking forward to Bob Iger's retirement.
