One Disney princess that is often underrepresented is Rapunzel from the 2010 animated film "Tangled".

At Walt Disney World, guests can meet Rapunzel at the Magic Kingdom at Princess Fairytale Hall. Both Rapunzel and Flynn Rider greet guests during special ticketed events such as Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

This year, Mother Gothel joined the fun at the Halloween Party. Possibly Disney is learning that fans love "Tangled". Earlier this week, we shared news of "Tangled" joining the Storybook Land Canals.

In 2012, Rapunzel fans were treated to the "Tangled Ever After" short, and then in 2017, we got lucky again. The Disney Channel premiered "Tangled Before Ever After," and "Tangled The Series" followed.

Back in 2020, we first shared that a "Tangled" live-action film was in the works, but fast forward to 2025, and we are still waiting with a frying pan in hand. Today, we have great news that "Tangled" is back in development, according to Deadline.

Work on this new film received a bit of a setback in April 2025, when the live-action Snow White was not well-received. Disney is once again taking steps in development to film the "Tangled" film. Disney saw large success with live-action remakes of more modern films such as "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", "The Little Mermaid", and most recently "Lilo and Stitch".

Two of the most frequent questions that fans have are #1, will this follow the 2010 film or be a prequel/sequel, and #2, who will be cast as Mother Gothel? Deadline confirms that current plans for this film will work from the script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson that was used in creating the 2010 animated film.

Secondly, rumors have it that Disney is considering Scarlett Johansson for the role of Mother Gothel. This has not yet been confirmed, but we have our fingers crossed that she will bring this role to life.

Currently, it is said that the film will be directed by Michael Gracey, who also directed "The Greatest Showman".

  1. Why are they still doing this, the remakes are DEAD, one successful movie doesn’t mean this particular remake doesn’t get uncancelled, hopefully when Josh D’Amaro (or anyone) takes over as Disney CEO next year, their first order is to permanently cancel all further Disney remakes including this one, because after Snow White’s infamous failure, there’s no way in hell that they would want to see a Tangled remake after going through this mess
