Walt Disney once said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” Disney continues to implement that idea because change is inevitable in the parks.

There are constantly new projects, refurbishments, and closures. From new rides and restaurants to shows and characters, there is always something new to experience in the parks.

There is a lot of talk about Disney World right now with them pulling the plug on the $1B Lake Nona project and the Galactic Starcruiser. Disney still hopes to invest $17B and create 13,000 new jobs at Disney World, but a lot of that seems to be up in the air now.

Comparatively speaking, Disneyland does not have the space to expand as much as Disney World does. However, that is not stopping Disney from expanding!

The last we heard about DisneylandForward was back in 2021. The Walt Disney Company hopes that this new expansion will not only help the Disneyland Resort but that it will also help to rebuild the economy of Anaheim.

These dreams hope to include an expansion of the theme parks, retail locations, and additional parking. Could we see more lands and attractions? We sure hope so!

Disney has remained very quiet about DisneylandForward since then. However, Disneyland President Ken Potrock recently shared an update:

“To put it simply, DisneylandForward sets the stage for significant and multi-decade investment in the future. This is the next generation of the Disneyland resort,” Potrock told the attendees of the OC forum. “When Disney invests, all boats rise and everyone benefits.”

Since 2021, Disneyland has been working with Anaheim to get this project off the ground. The DisneylandForward proposal should go before the Anaheim Planning Commission before the end 2023 and the City Council in early 2024.

According to the OC Register, the DisneylandForward presentation included concept art from Disney theme park projects around the globe offering “possibilities” of what future expansion could look like at the Disneyland resort. The projects presented included the Tangled, Frozen and Peter Pan themed lands coming to Tokyo Disneyland in Japan and the Zootopia themed land planned for Shanghai Disneyland in China.

The Immersive Theme Park westside expansion in the DisneylandForward proposal envisions theme park attractions on the Downtown Disney and Lilo and Stitch parking lots woven amid the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel.
