A Fan-Favorite Magic Kingdom Ride Does Not Reopen After Closure

Well, this could certainly dampen your touring plans for the day. A fan-favorite Magic Kingdom ride is still not open after its closure. When will it reopen?

Refurbishments

Refurbishments are a part of life at Disney theme parks around the world. It’s not uncommon for at least one attraction to be closed at any given time.

Refurbishments may take place for various reasons. Whether it be for mechanical issues or cosmetic updates, a refurbishment is needed to ensure the best experience for Guests. Based on the nature of the work, the refurbishment may be a few days or several months.

Oftentimes, rides will also undergo a yearly maintenance. Rides like Kali River Rapids, Splash Mountain, and both water parks will typically close at some point during the winter months for any work that needs complete.

Splash Mountain

Every year, Splash Mountain closes in January for an annual refurbishment. Splash Mountain closed on January 10 and was set to reopen today, February 11. You can read more details HERE.

Do note that this is not a closure to begin work on the Princess and the Frog retheme. Our latest update shows that the creative team is still in the beginning stages of preparing and working out several creative and logistical components before the ride physically closes.

Unfortunately, Splash Mountain has not reopened today as anticipated. A pop up notification on MDE states,

“On behalf of the entire time at Magic Kingdom Park, I’d like to apologize that Splash Mountain is currently unavailable. Our Cast Members have been working diligently to get the attraction up and running again, and we are sorry you are not able to experience this attraction at this time.

I hope you will enjoy some of our other attractions during your experience in the park today.”

When will it reopen?

The ride is still not listed on the attraction list in MDE, so there is no telling when it will reopen. Hopefully, it will reopen later today or maybe even tomorrow.

Depending on the work that is needed to complete the refurbishment, it could be longer.
