In June of 2020, we brought you news that the Award-winning Gideon’s Bakehouse was coming to Disney Springs this year.

In December 2020, Gideon’s Bakehouse opened its doors for a short-lived soft opening which was met with long wait times and eager enthusiasm by fans dying to get their hands on one of these decadent treats.

After a short, temporary closing, Gideon’s Bakehouse had its grand opening day on January 16, 2021 and guests were so excited to get their hands on these cookies they lined up early to get a place in the virtual queue.

THE VIRTUAL QUEUE WAS FINALLY CLOSED OFF LESS THAN AN HOUR AFTER GIDEON’S BAKEHOUSE OPENED. THE FINAL QUEUE WAS GIVEN AN 11 HOUR RETURN TIME!

Now 11 hours may seem a bit excessive to wait for an ordinary cookie, but Gideon’s Bakehouse fans know that these cookies are anything BUT ordinary.

Recently, fellow KtP writer, Marisol, compared Gideon’s to the new Everglaze Donuts at Disney Springs. Check out who reigns supreme!

History

Gideon’s Bakehouse’s original store opened in 2016 in the East End Market. With just $800 in the budget, no investors, and one employee, they quickly grew to become a world renowned bakery.

Gideon’s prides itself on it’s attention to detail and theming. Nothing is done by accident.

Even the gargoyle that sits at the top of the new bakery location has a great a backstory!

“AT 5:18 AM ON DECEMBER 18TH, 2020, A MYSTERIOUS CREATURE FLEW OVER OUR BAKEHOUSE AT DISNEY SPRINGS, STOLE OUR G, AND PERCHED ATOP THE BUILDING. HE HAS YET TO MOVE, AND WE HAVE A FEELING HE MIGHT STAY. WE ARE IN POSSESSION OF THE JOURNAL OF JONATHAN LINDWURM, THE ORIGINAL SHOP OWNER OF THE SPACE WE OCCUPY. WITH IT, WE HOPE TO UNCOVER THE HISTORY OF THIS NEW GUARDIAN OF GIDEON.”

November Limited Edition Offerings

In February, guests fell in love with the Eternal Flame cookie that packed some heat with it’s cayenne spice mix. In March, we got a unexpected choice with the Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl Cookie that PB fans fell in love with.

April’s limited edition flavor introduced us to Stuart Valencia and his special Orange Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookie. Peanut Butter Espresso fans were treated to a delightful limited edition option in May and June brought us the return of the popular White Chocolate Caramel Macadamia Nut cookie.

As part of the Flavors of Florida event, Gideon’s announced their July flavor would be the Key Lime Pie Cookie.

To wind down the summer, Gideon’s introduced the Rocky Road Cookie for the month of August and the intriguing Lemon Poppyseed Cookie (Bonnie’s Cookie) in September.

October brought in some spooky surprises with both the Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein cookies and cake slices.

Now that November is here, we have a brand new cookie that’s “ to die for”. In honor of el Dia de los Muertos Gideon’s is bringing in the Chocolate Churro Cookie (aka the Calavera Cookie) to enjoy all month long!

The Chocolate Churro Cookie is a rich mega chocolate cookie filled with cinnamon sugar and a pinch of ancho and cayenne pepper for a smokey finish.

The Chocolate Churro Cookie also has a layer of Dulce de Leche in the middle and is topped with a mix of chocolates, including Mexican Stone Ground Chocolate.

Pumpkin Caramel Double Frosted Cake

The Pumpkin Caramel Double Frosted Cake is a vanilla cinnamon cake that is covered in layers of pumpkin and caramel buttercream. You can find this cake by the slice all month long at Disney Springs, and whole cakes can be preordered at the East End Market location!

November is bound to be an exciting time as we all prepare for the holidays! If you plan to be in Orlando this month, be sure to stop into Gideon’s Bakehouse!

You can’t go wrong with anything you order at Gideon’s Bakehouse, but if you love that velvety rich chocolate and cinnamon sugar combination, be sure to grab this month’s new cookie while it lasts!

Sorry, never put them down (said they were good). I also do not buy into the hype that these are the best cookies ever. You are certainly welcome to wait; I just wanted to let others know there are equally (or better, based on personal preference) if there is a 2 hour wait.

The only person I put down is Chepak, as he is wrecking things for his own evil gain.

Tracy, not a party pooper, just there are better ways to use your time than waiting for an hour or two for cookies that are no better than one you can get at home (unless your home town lacks a good baker, or you do not have good baking skills on your own). Another option -- take a chewy Chips Ahoy cookie, microwave it for a few seconds, coat it with butter and add salt and sugar on top.

I actually saw (at the Gilbert Oktoberfest two weeks ago) someone copying Gideon's cookies, though a bit smaller (and still overpriced, but a great way to make $$).

Given its National Donut Day I would also recommend Everglazed Donuts (across from Spiltsville) as another alternative (though they have queue lines as well)

We say to each his own here. If you like Gideon's great! If you don't, there are definitely other great options out there in Disney too, but we don't put others down for liking different things. This world would be much more boring if we were all the same!

Party pooper! They’re an extravagant indulgence while you’re on vacation in WDW.

"To Die For" is highly appropriate, once you realize how much salt, sugar and fat is in one of this "cookies" (they should have a warning attached to them, just as Taco Bell does with some of their offerings i.e. Nachos Grande that contain too much salt).

While they are good, they are not worth the wait. Better to just get some Ghirardelli Ice Cream, which is likely healthier.
