Reopening Water Parks

Both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon remained closed when Disney World reopened last summer. Then, Blizzard Beach reopened in March 2021 just in time for spring break crowds.

Disney announced some some updates to the way things operate to keep safety and health at the forefront of everyone’s experiences. Reduced capacity, temperature screenings, physical distancing markings, and face coverings are required.

However, as you may have noticed when reading that last sentence, most of those are gone at Disney World now! So, is Disney looking to reopen the second water park, Typhoon Lagoon?

Typhoon Lagoon Work

Back in June, Disney World filed some general construction permits for the address where Typhoon Lagoon is located. Since then, it appears work has completed because we have some great aerial shots of the location from Twitter user @bioreconstruct.

In the photo below, you can see all the lounge chairs are set up and ready for Guest use. Disney has also filled the pool with water.

In various other tweets posted by @bioreconstruct you can see that the waterslides and wave pool have also been filled with water.

We still do not have an official announcement from Disney, but it looks promising that we may soon be able to visit Typhoon Lagoon.

Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach?

Many would argue Typhoon Lagoon is the superior water park of the two that Disney World has. It’s themed more appropriately to Florida whereas the concept for Blizzard Beach is a bit more bizarre.

The story goes that a freak snowstorm led to the construction of a ski lodge built around the snow. However, Florida temperatures quickly melted the snow and the ski lodge idea was quickly dismissed.

Typhoon Lagoon arguably has the better attractions of the two. Rebecca put the two water parks head to head in her article HERE.
