I would recommend choosing an excursion that will allow you to return to the ship by 3:30pm, so you can see all the characters in Pirate gear with no stress. I chose one that brought us back later and had to hustle at 9:15pm to meet 4 characters before they cut the line.
Note: Captain Jack Sparrow's line is shortest around 8:00pm. It's also short on Castaway Cay.
I wasn't able to begin meeting characters until 5:15pm, so I began with Minnie and Mickey while the lines weren't as bad. Later in the night they had long lines. I had no great costume because we only had a few days to put the trip together, so it's the free Pirate bandana for me. I'll do better next time!!! One cast member said I look like a banana with a bandana. Too funny.
I then met Chip n Dale around 6:00pm
We watched the Magic Dave show. Highly recommend this show as it is hilarious! After that we took in the Pirate deck party with the Disney characters and I then met Captain Jack Sparrow. His line was usually really long. He cared less about driving the ship and more about the rum supply on Castaway Cay.
I had a limited amount of time to meet the characters I wanted, so I bailed on the formal dinner and grabbed some pizza before being first in line for Donald. I noticed that the line for Goofy was longer btw.
After meeting the number one sailing Pirate, I met his better half. She had a short line because she had just appeared, so I was doing great. Full 15 minutes to get in line for 2 characters.
Next up for me was Stitch. This was a must do because his costume is so awesome.
I had all of 2 minutes left to get in line for Pirate Goofy when I arrived!
I then joined the formal dinner in time for dessert and watched the Pirates fireworks at sea show. No one can entertain like Disney, especially with fireworks at sea!

Thanks for all the info. We sail Feb 23 on the Fantasy with a Star Wars Day At Sea. I’ve booked Chewbacca, R2D2, C3PO, and Darth Vader. Can’t wait. Heads up though. The photo package on the Disney Cruise Line is astoundingly expensive compared to Memory Maker, and in many ways inferior, such as unremovable borders. I’m using only my camera for photos the whole cruise this time.
Do you know if there's characters in the kids club? I'm going really soon and since I'm 16 I'll be in the teens club the vibe! I really want to spend time with a character and not just have a long wait to have a 1 minute conversation with them!
Characters do pop up in kids clubs from time to time. Lines on ships aren't that long. Maybe 15 minutes.
Kenny, your reviews are the best and make me want to become a cruise girl. Never been on one but can for sure see myself looking into it. Thanks for the mention about dressing up on certain nights. °o°

We took this same cruise in April. It was our first cruise and we really enjoyed it. I wish I had this review before going bc we missed out on our Castaway Cay pics with the characters!

The character attendants on the Cruise line are always so wonderful. They also are the main stage performers you can see in the Walt Disney Theater nightly!:)
Some appear for the deck parties as well.
Is your day 6 costume info correct? Don't the VIPs wear formal costumes on night 6?

This is awesome! We are sailing this exact cruise in February, and reading your updates and seeing all of the fantastic pictures makes me even more excited!

We went on the fantasy last sept and loved it! The character team literally made our trip! We were calling ourselves the toddler paparazzi because our three year old had to meet everyone and by the end they all knew his name.
We will be on the magic this November can you tell me more about booking the special tickets online? For Disney junior and the princess gathering? They didn't offer that Last year and I would love to cross it off my list ahead of time

Thank you. This was great! I am going on the Fantasy in October and can't wait. We will be able to get the Halloween costume meets, but I didn't know about some of these others. We went on the Dream in December and got some great Christmas costume meets like Belle in her Christmas dress, Santa Goofy, and holiday beachwear at Castaway Cay. This makes me want to take a 4th of July cruise.
Well you convinced me! Lol! A couple a questons- are there always that many characters? & if it's Halloween cruise will they still do all outfits & just a Halloween night like July 4th night? Thanks!
On a 7 night Halloween would replace a 2nd cruise line or 2nd formal night from what I was told
