Disney Tests New Wristbands to Replace Key to the World
Disney Cruise Line is rolling out something new! Here are all the details about what to expect and what to do with your MagicBand+ in the meantime.
Key To the World Card
For years now, Disney Cruise Line has provided Guests with a Key to the World Card to access their staterooms on the ship. Finding these cards outside their stateroom is often a fun beginning to the magic of Disney Cruise Line for travelers!
Not only do the cards provide access to the stateroom, but they also serve other purposes. For example, guests use them to keep the lights on in the stateroom. Guests can also use them for room charges.
But now Disney is testing something new in place of the cards! Could this be the beginning of a new wave of magic?
Key to the World Wristbands
On October 10, 2026, guests sailing on the Disney Treasure will experience something brand new. They will not find Key to the World Cards outside of their room.
Instead, they will receive a Key to the World wristband. These wristbands will be activated at check-in.
The bands will only work for the specific October 10 cruise they are on, unlike DisneyBand+. Guests will return the bands at debarkation by placing them into designated bins at the conclusion of their sailing.
According to Disney, this change is a test. The goal is to determine ways to make the guest experience on Disney Cruise Line even more effortless and easy.
What About MagicBand+
Guests who have a MagicBand+ or a DisneyBand+ can still use them aboard the ship. They will be activated at check-in as usual.
However, guests with a DisneyBand+ or MagicBand+ will not receive the Key to the World wristband. They will not need one since their MagicBand+/DisneyBand+ serves the same purpose.
Gusets who have MagicBand+ or DisneyBand+ will be able to use them for the cruise still.
Again, so far this only impacts the Disney Treasure for now. If testing becomes more widespread or leads to a shift in operations, we will let you know!
