Did Disney World Just "Mansplain" a Trash Can?

Disney Solar-Powered Trash Cans
EPCOT rolled out a change recently that seems to align nicely with Disney's Conservation Initiatives. However, some fans are NOT happy about it.
All the fuss is over the new trash cans that have been appearing in EPCOT over the past few weeks. The innovative design features a foot pedal to open a chute to drop waste or recyclables in.
Not only are the new receptacles more hygienic than the previous ones, but they are also more functional. You see, they aren't just trash cans; they are trash compactors!
Problem with New Trash Cans
The bins run on solar power. So they can compact the trash, making it take longer to fill the containers, and perhaps conserving a significant number of trash bags.
However, this small change caused outrage among Disney Guests. The biggest complaint of all was the fact that many Guests found it difficult to understand how to use these new solar-powered trash cans.
On a recent trip to EPCOT, I (Donna) watched in amazement as two young adults made three attempts to throw away their trash. I was impressed by their determination to properly dispose of their trash. However, I was amazed that this really was a complicated predicament for Guests.
Trash Can Tutorial
I felt ridiculous intervening to show them how to use a trash can, and finally the third time was the charm. It appears that Walt Disney World Cast Members have also noticed the struggle and created a new video explaining how to use the new solar-powered trash cans.
New themed solar-powered trash cans will be added throughout Walt Disney World.
The premise is that these new trash cans will help Cast Members keep the park cleaner. We hope that is the case. Disney promises that as more trash cans are added throughout Walt Disney World, fun theming will be added.
