Fan Outrage Over a Small Change at EPCOT
EPCOT rolled out one little spark of change, and it has sparked some surprisingly intense controversy among fans. What are your thoughts on this one?
Outrage Over Change at EPCOT

EPCOT rolled out a change recently that seems to align nicely with Disney's Conservation Initiatives. However, some fans are NOT happy about it.
In fact, you could go as far as to say some Disney Parks fans have a bee in their bonnet over it. Spike the bee, that is.
So, what is the change that has fans abuzz? Dear readers, I present to you the new EPCOT trash cans and recycling bins for your consideration.
New Trash Cans at EPCOT

All the fuss is over the new trash cans that have been appearing in EPCOT over the past few weeks. The innovative design features a foot pedal to open a shoot to drop waste or recyclables in.
Not only are the new receptacles more hygienic than the previous ones, but they are also more functional. You see, they aren't just trash cans, they are trash compactors!
The bins run on solar power. So they can compact the trash, making it take longer to fill the containers, and perhaps conserving a significant number of trash bags.
Why People are Angry

So why do some world travelers find the new bins irksome? It is simply because of what they view as a design flaw.
These new trashcans do not make good tables
The tops of the new bins are not flat like a tabletop (you can see the old bins HERE for comparison). Rather, their tops are rounded.
Despite the fact that they have improved functionality (as shown in the video below), many EPCOT festival fans are annoyed that they will no longer be able to use trash cans around World Showcase as makeshift tables during seasons when crowds are high and seating is limited.
After all, it is true that finding a spot to perch while you enjoy a dish from a food booth can be tricky! It would be lovely if Disney were to add more cocktail tables for guests to stand around during festival season. That way, festival attendees would not feel the need to resort to trash-top dining in the first place.
What do you think of the new EPCOT trash cans? Do you love them, or do you think they are horrible? Will you miss trash-top dining at food festivals? Feel free to chime in!
