Disney's Contemporary Resort opened on October 1, 1971 making it one of two Disney World opening day resorts (the other being the Polynesian).

It falls into the deluxe resort category and sits right outside Magic Kingdom! You cannot miss it due to its A-frame shape, which was very contemporary in the 1970s.

Disney announced a fairly big refurbishment for both Disney's Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower.

Disney recently notified Guests that this big refurbishment would be extended again. Originally, Disney's Contemporary refurbishment started in September 2024.

Disney made an extension to this refurbishment. At that time, the refurbishment was extended until July 2026.

Disney warns guests that Disney's Contemporary Resort will now extend through late 2027. This will be an almost 3-year refurbishment. Check out full details for this refurbishment HERE.

Contemporary Resort Warning

Guests staying at Disney's Contemporary Resort are warned that scheduled fire alarm testing will occur today, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, and tomorrow, Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 12:30 pm until 3:30 pm on both days.

Disney's Contemporary Resort will have scheduled fire alarm testing on June 3 and June 4, 2026.

Disney shares, "During this time, you may experience strobe light testing and loud ringing tones." Guests are encouraged to contact Front Desk Cast Members if they have any questions or need any assistance.
