Times sure are changing, that's for certain. And theme parks are changing with the times, even nostalgic places set in the heart of the South like Dollywood.

Recently, Dollywood announced that its resorts are going cashless! Beginning June 11, Dollywood Resorts will accept electronic payments only, including debit cards, credit cards, and mobile options like Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Why is Dollywood moving to a chasless model? According to Dollywood, moving to a fully electronic payment system makes every transaction faster, easier, and more secure, so you can spend less time paying and more time enjoying everything. And it isn't just the resorts that are switching over.

Splash Country Goes Cashless

Dollywood's Water Park, Splash Country, is joining the resorts in going cashless. Again, Dollywood cites efficiency as a primary motivator for the change.

Beginning May 16, Dollywood's Splash Country will accept electronic payments only. This includes debit cards, credit cards, and mobile options like Apple Pay and Google Pay.

So far, Dollywood theme park is still accepting cash. But the writing seems to be on the wall.

What if you Only Have Cash in Dollywood

This change leaves guests wondering what happens if someone brings only cash to spend. For example, what if you have a child going to Splash Country as the guest of another family, and you want to send some spending money with the child? You probably wouldn't open a credit card for them

Dollywood is offering Cash to Card Kiosks to transfer up to $500 from cash to a pre-paid card in whole dollar amounts. This card can be used for any transaction at locations that accept credit or debit cards around the parks or resorts.

There is no fee to load the card, but if a balance remains, a fee of $3.95 will be charged each month. Moreover, the transfer only works one way. Once you turn your cash into a card, you can not turn it back into cash. You must spend your entire balance.

These cards are also not reloadable. And, at this time, you cannot store them in an Apple Wallet.

This isn't the only big change to hit Dollywood. You can read about a shocking change to height requirements HERE.
