Plans Revealed for a Resort Inside Magic Kingdom
Could you imagine staying inside Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom? Check out the initial plans created by Disney Imagineers.
Magic Kingdom Resorts

There are five resorts that are very close to the Magic Kingdom. Disney's Polynesian and Contemporary opened in 1971 along with the park. Fort Wilderness opened later in 1971.
The Grand Floridian opened in 1988, and Wilderness Lodge followed several years later in 1994. Shades of Green is not a Disney owned and operated resort, but it is a short walk away from the Polynesian.
While these Resorts are close to the Magic Kingdom, they are not inside the Magic Kingdom. However, we just learned that Disney Imagineers had plans to bring the first-ever Disney Resort inside the magical gates of the Magic Kingdom.
Resorts Inside Magic Kingdom

In February 2024, Todd Rimmer, a master-planning executive with Disney Imagineering, was under attack when Disney and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District were suing each other.
In a deposition, Rimmer shared that the Magic Kingdom expansion was still under development, but it "included new attractions and redevelopment of existing attractions and potentially new hotels."
Rimmer shared that Disney had plans to build one or possibly two Resorts inside the Magic Kingdom. This bold move hoped to compete with Universal's Helios Grand Hotel, which resides inside Epic Universe.
Villains Land Expansion

This news surfaced after Florida Politics obtained these court records through a public records request. Unfortunately, the dreams for one or two Magic Kingdom Resorts fizzled out.
Disney claims this is "the largest expansion in history at Magic Kingdom."
Fast forward to August 2024, when Josh D'Amaro announced plans for Villains Land. Villains Land will be located at Disney's Magic Kingdom as part of the "Beyond Big Thunder" expansion.
Villains Land will include 2 attractions, dining, shopping, and more, but no mention of a Magic Kingdom Resort.
