Disney has big plans for overhauling areas in some of its theme parks in the coming years. These plans affect both the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida as well as Disneyland in California.

Walt Disney World is busily demolishing Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom to bring Piston Peak, a Cars-themed area. In Animal Kingdom, Dinoland U.S.A. is being reimagined to bring in Central America with areas themed to Indiana Jones and Encanto. Moreover, Hollywood Studios is overhauling Muppet Courtyard for Monstropolis, a Monsters Inc. area.

And, in Disneyland, there are plans in place to overhaul more parts of Disney California Adventure. This includes a new Avatar-themed area!

The new Avatar area in Disney California Adventure in Disneyland is expected to replace Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue. This is a dark ride that delights guests with Monsters, Inc. storytelling.

The ride is supposed to be closed and demolished for the transformation. This is sad news for Monsters Inc. fans.

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue to the Rescue was originally slated to close in early 2026. However, now that the closure has been delayed!

Disneyland President Thomas Mazloum made the announcement this week. Fans will be able to continue enjoying the ride. And newcomers won't miss out, at least for the time being!

In fact, it seems Guests will have almost an extra year, perhaps more, to enjoy the attraction. The ride will remain open into 2027. There has been no specific date or time frame revealed beyond that so far.

Of course, this also means that the planned Avatar area will be delayed longer. If updates arise, we will make you aware of them.
