Disney Cancels Monsters Inc. Attraction

Disney just dropped all of the news for upcoming attractions. Find out why Monsters Inc. is on the chopping block.

Monsters Inc. Changes

Disney Parks are changing things up in a BIG way, and it seems as soon as one attraction closes, Disney plans to bring that same concept to a new park.

At Walt Disney World, the Muppet Courtyard will soon close to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land. The new land will include “a whole new theater show” in the Muppet*Vision 3D theater and a whole new thrilling coaster.

With new plans to bring Monsters Inc. to the East Coast, we were shocked to hear that the Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! at Disney California Adventure will close in early 2026.

Avatar Land Location

Back in November 2023, Disney first announced that a new Avatar Land would come to Disneyland. Imagineering has also welcomed great minds to plan this new expansion. In January, Jon Landau, producer for the Avatar movies visited Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California.

Originally, Many speculated it may take the place of Redwood Creek or one of the backlot areas in Hollywood Land.

Disney has now confirmed that the Avatar Land will transform a portion of the current Hollywood Backlot area where the Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is located.

New Avatar Land

This project is still in the early stages of development, and additional details will be shared later, including construction timeframes. Disney shared a brand new concept art of this new land (as featured above).

Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will close in early 2026.
