Photo Updates: Disney Clears the Frontier to Make Way for Cars
Disney demolition is pushing forward in a major way. Here are photo updates so you can see Disney clear the frontier in the Magic Kingdom to make way for Cars.
Disney Clears the Frontier

By now, you likely know that Disney is saying goodbye to two big pieces of the Magic Kingdom's History. Both Tom Sawyer's Island and Rivers of America in Frontierland are being demolished to make way for something new.
Once the frontier is cleared, Disney plans to bring Walt Disney World its own version of Disney California Adventure's Carsland. The new area, called Piston Peak, will feature car-themed attractions.

Many Disney Parks fans like the idea of repurposing all the space for new e-ticket attractions. However, other guests will miss the vibes.
Moreover, children who love to run and play and explore will, doubtless, miss making memories in the expansive play area full of open-ended adventure to balance the time standing in line for short bursts of passive entertainment. But, perhaps a new generation of Cars fans will appreciate the final product!
Construction Updates

Much of what is happening in the Magic Kingdom is currently visible to guests in Frontierland or Liberty Square. It could be a little shocking for someone who doesn't know to expect construction during their visit. Now that the Rivers of America have been drained, demolition has moved forward quickly, especially compared to the initial work.
One big milestone in the construction pertains to Tom Sawyer Island. Fort Langhorn is coming down.
Much of the beloved old structure has been demolished and reduced to debris. It is not looking very magical right now. Alas, such is progress, and it is necessary for the long-awaited expansion, which will be the largest in the history of the Magic Kingdom.

You can also see a video of the construction to get a feel for what the Magic Kingdom looks like right now. Hopefully, the construction will take shape quickly and give guests something nicer to look at soon.

If the new area is as nice as Carsland in Disneyland, then it will be a success. And I (Kate) am holding onto hope that it will be a thing of beauty in the end.
