The Carousel of Progress was one of the attractions that first debuted at the New York World Fair back in 1964.

Carousel of Progress is one of the remaining attractions created by Walt Disney himself. The show has had more performances than any other stage show in the history of American theater and is a true piece of history.

It has been rumored to be in serious need of a refurbishment, and many fans worried that the classic would meet a fate similar to Tom Sawyer's Island and Rivers of America.

Disney Imagineers hope to breathe new life into this attraction. Last August, Disney Imagineers shared plans to bring a Walt Disney animatronic to this attraction.

This will be similar to the Walt Disney animatronic currently at Disneyland.

There are also updates on the horizon for John, Sarah, and the rest of the family, including Rover! While details for these have not been revealed, the Imagineers promise that the heart of the attraction will remain.

Today, a new permit was filed by Walt Disney Imagineering to "install fire alarm/fire protection systems" for Carousel of Progress. While this doesn't sound extremely exciting, the fact that it is filed by Walt Disney Imagineering means this will relate to actual show elements.

Walt Disney Imagineers are truly the "magic makers" behind the scenes. This may be the first sign that a Walt Disney animatronic may be coming soon to Magic Kingdom's Carousel of Progress.

At this time, it is uncertain if the attraction will close for this work or if all work will be completed after guests leave for the day.
