The Walt Disney Company is deeply concerned with worldwide conservation efforts. From protecting wildlife at Animal Kingdom to implementing paper straws and reusable bags, Disney strives to make our world a better place.

They have created a line of reusable travel utensils for those who wish to be more environmentally conscious during their visit to the parks.

It does not stop there, though. Disney continues to remind us to recycle as much as we can. Next to almost every trash can at Disney World, there is also a recycling can. Even compost cans are popping up around the parks.

The idea of conservation sounds great on paper, but sometimes these decisions can create more work and negative side effects. Recently, Walt Disney World made the transition from hand dryers back to paper towels throughout the parks.

Back in February, President Trump made an executive order for the Federal government to stop purchasing paper straws. This banned them from all Federal buildings.

Now it appears that the state of Florida would like to implement a ban for the entire state.

Senate Bill 958 (filed December 18) and House Bill HB 2195 (filed December 26) aim to regulate paper straws. The bill was created with the concern that many paper straws may contain harmful chemicals.

The bill cites, "Independent university studies have shown that most paper straws contain harmful PFAS chemicals, exposure to which is linked to concerning health risks."

If this bill is passed, it will go into effect immediately with a deadline of January 1, 2027. It is unclear if the paper straws that Walt Disney World uses would be affected by this bill.
