Refurbishments are a part of life at Disney Parks. These may take place for various reasons. Whether it be for mechanical issues or cosmetic updates, a refurbishment can take place for many reasons.

Based on the nature of the work, the refurbishment may take a few days or several months. Although refurbishments occur throughout the year, Walt Disney World tends to begin many refurbishments in the slower months of January and February.

What is even more puzzling is when an attraction finally reopens after a refurbishment and still experiences extended closures.

Astro Orbiter is located in Tomorrowland at Disney's Magic Kingdom Park. It is a Dumbo-style spinner attraction that will whisk you high into the sky. The attraction closed for a multi-month refurbishment on January 13, 2025, and finally reopened on June 27th.

Astro Orbiter was later closed for several days in July. Since it reopened to guests, it is not a "Happily Ever After" for space explorers.

According to guests and Cast Members, the main lift is not operational for the Astro Orbiter. This lift raises and lowers the attraction. Currently, Astro Orbiter is only rising to half the height that guests previously enjoyed.

The real concern is that this "failure to launch," so to speak, comes after the entire Astro Orbiter attraction was completely dismantled for this refurbishment. Each piece that was removed was repainted and then reinstalled.

Many Disney guests are concerned that this attraction is still not operating fully after such a lengthy and thorough refurbishment. The attraction remains open; however, the view and experience are not nearly as exciting as before.
