Let’s be honest, no one hopes that they will encounter rain on vacation. At Walt Disney World, rain is pretty common and something that guests should always be prepared for.

With a little preparation, guests can still have a magical day despite some rain. Then at other times, the weather is a major factor such as during the hurricane season at Walt Disney World.

It is not often, but on occasion, Walt Disney World has closed the parks due to hurricanes. Now the weather concerns have shifted from Walt Disney World to Disneyland in California.

For several days the state of California has experienced some turbulent weather. Last night, Sunday, February 4th, Disneyland closed both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure an hour earlier than previously posted due to the weather.

Today, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for 8 counties including Orange County where Disneyland is located. This is due to flash flooding and the second atmospheric river in one week has caused evacuations, flooding, and road closures.

Just 30 miles from Disneyland Resort, Los Angeles is expected to receive a month’s worth of rain. According to CNN, this storm may be as strong as Tropical Storm Hilary which affected California last August.

The National Weather Service predicts that this storm will actually stall later this evening in Los Angeles. This may potentially bring up to 8-14 inches of rain.

At this time, Disneyland has not altered its operating hours today and tomorrow as flood watches are still in effect. Guests and residents are encouraged to use extreme caution and only travel if they feel comfortable.

We will continue to monitor Disneyland’s operating hours for the next couple of days. Our prayers are with all who are affected by the power outages, flooding, and mudslides in California.

Updated to add: Disneyland has changed operating hours for Monday, February 5th. Previously Disneyland Park was set to close at 10:00 pm and this is now changed to 8:00 pm. Disney California Adventure Part was set to close at 9:00 pm and this is now changed to 8:00 pm.
