Sometimes theme park crowds are too much and you need a break. Magic Kingdom has so many out-of-the-way and uncrowded spots to do just that.
The Magic Kingdom
There are so many unique things to explore while visiting Magic Kingdom. Whether you’re looking for Disney merchandise, fun food or amazing attractions, there is something for everyone here.
Magic Kingdom is organized into the following lands: Liberty Square, Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland, Main Street U.S.A. and Tomorrowland.
Magic Kingdom crowds can get heavy which may take away from taking in all Magic Kingdom has to offer. Sometimes, you just need to get away from the crowds for a bit without going back to your resort.
No worries! Take a look below at some of my (Susan) favorite places to relax while at Magic Kingdom. You can see the best places to escape EPCOT crowds HERE.
Liberty Square
Liberty Square is one of the least crowded lands at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. However, you don’t want to miss checking its charm out on your next visit.
If you need a place to relax, look for the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe, and go behind it. There are uncrowded spaces here with half-walls for sitting. Sometimes, you’ll even see characters at the Gazebo and there are even a few picnic tables in this area.
Look for picnic tables and shaded seating behind the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe.
Or hop aboard the Liberty Square Riverboat. Here, you can cruise the scenic Rivers of America aboard an authentic steam-powered paddle wheeler. Steam into American history aboard the majestic, Colonial-era Liberty Belle riverboat and enjoy a relaxing half-mile tour around Tom Sawyer Island.
Along the way, listen to a recorded narrator—in the voice of iconic American author and humorist Mark Twain—sharing memories of Twain’s time on the Mississippi. This Riverboat is seldom packed and makes for a nice break from the crowds.
If you’re in need of an air-conditioned break, don’t miss the Hall of Presidents. Take your seat in the stately theater, home to 3 massive digital projection screens and a grand proscenium. Watch an original film developed by a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian that tells the dramatic story of the nation’s founding.
Learn about the formation of our Constitution and the hard-fought struggles along the way—such as the American Revolution and the Civil War. Listen to the stirring words of John F. Kennedy echo through the theater and watch Abraham Lincoln—in attendance on stage—deliver his Gettysburg address.
Check out the Hall of Presidents for an air conditioned break.
Frontierland
With the closure of Splash Mountain, Frontierland is rarely crowded. The only attractions now located in Frontierland are Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the Frontier Train Station. Even though you’re not really escaping crowds on the train, it’s such a peaceful and scenic seated trip that you feel relaxed anyway.
There are several seated areas in front of the former Splash Mountain. There are also porches near Pecos Bill restaurant. This is the best place to stake out an uncrowded spot for parades too!
If you’re ready for an adventure, then take a float over to Tom’s Sawyer’s Island. There’s never a crowd there and it’s so much fun!
Or, if you need an air-conditioned nap, check out The Country Bear’s Jamboree. It doesn’t draw a crowd and feels really cool inside.
Adventureland
Adventureland has a couple of areas good for relaxing. First, at the entrance near Main Street, look for the spring roll cart (and while you’re there, be sure to try one of these delicious snacks). Across from this cart, there’s a stone seated ring around a large tree that makes a nice seated resting area.
In addition, there’s a covered half-wall just to the right of Aloha Isle. This is a great spot to escape the sun or rain too.
Located behind Pecos Bill, Golden Oak Outpost quick service has seating across from it and there are rarely many people there.
Take a seat across from Golden Oak Outpost for a break from the crowds.
Fantasyland
Fantasyland is one of the most popular spots in all of Magic Kingdom. With this popularity comes crowds! At times, you’ll encounter bottle-necked crowds between Peter Pan’s Flight and it’s a small world attractions.
If you’re looking for a shady spot to rest and charge your phone, look no further than the area across from the charming Tangled restrooms. There are also half walls outside the restrooms to the right of Pecos Bill too. Read more about this hidden gem HERE.
Another great place to chill is Storybook Circus. Here, you’ll find interesting and comfortable seating and outlets to charge your phone. Inside this charming story, there is also air-conditioning. There are also some outdoor picnic tables that are rarely crowded.
Storybook Circus provides seating in an air-conditioned setting.
In addition, be on the lookout for benches behind Cinderella Castle across from Sir Mickey’s shop. Depending on the time of day, you may find shade here.
Main Street U.S.A.
Main Street U.S.A. is so much fun and often overcrowded with enthusiastic guests. However, don’t miss the spots to relax along this scenic street. First, just past City Hall there are several covered benches right outside the restroom. This is one of my (Susan) go to chill spots.
Look for Center Street off Main Street for a perfect chill spot.
Often overlooked, Center Street is a side street off Main Street with quaint seating and no crowds. Finally, there is ample seating to the right of the Crystal Palace restaurant just outside the restrooms, first aid center, and baby care center.
Tomorrowland
When Disney World reopened in July 2020, masks were mandatory and it was so hot! To combat the heat, Disney offered relaxation stations where guests could relax without masks. On the path to Tomorrowland, Tomorrowland Terrace was designated as one of these relaxation stations.
Tomorrowland Terrace offers a huge covered seated area to relax.
Now, Tomorrowland Terrace offers a huge covered seated area to relax. While not officially a relaxation station, don’t overlook this wonderful area to escape crowds.
And if you need some air-conditioning while visiting Tomorrowland, check out The Carousel of Progress. Theater seats here are comfortable and this attraction doesn’t fill up often.
