The theme parks are the main draw of a Disney vacation, but many guests enjoy spending some time at their resort. It can be nice to take a “day off” from the parks or enjoy some time in between park visits to enjoy a resort’s accommodations.

Disney resorts also offer many recreation options for guests to take advantage of, and many are free! There are a variety of activities offered that appeal to all ages as well.

Free activities offered at resorts include dance parties, trivia, movies under the stars, glow parties, swimming pool games and campfires with complementary marshmallows. Be sure to check the schedules posted at your resort.

Most resorts offer activities for purchase as well. These activities can include items such as Mickey Tie-Dye shirts, crafts of the day, and mosaics. Often the activities for purchase will fit the theme of your resort like the Kukui Nut Leis at the Polynesian or the Sea Salt Scrub at the Yacht & Beach Club. Check with guest services for pricing.

With the kick-off of the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration in October of 2021, special offerings were added to most resort recreation schedules. At resorts that offer a campfire, 50th Anniversary Celebration S’Mores Kits have been available for purchase. The kits contain a classic s’more kit with a twist for the 50th Anniversary.

In addition, about two-thirds of Disney World’s resorts added a Heritage Scavenger Hunt for the 50th Anniversary. Guests can explore their resort with this family-friendly scavenger hunt themed to the original opening day Disney World attractions.

A select few resorts, such as the Contemporary Resort & Bay Lake Tower had an additional pool party added to the resort’s schedule. The 50th Anniversary Celebration Pool Party takes place Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 3:00PM at the Bay Cove Pool.

50th Anniversary Activities Ending?

Disney has officially stated that the 50th Anniversary Celebration will end March 31st. Much of the special merchandise, cavalcades, and more are slated to end as the resort makes a transition from the anniversary celebration. It would make sense, in theory, that March may be your last chance to enjoy the special resort activities added for the anniversary.

It’s possible that the resort recreation activities could just transition back to a general theme that was utilized before the anniversary, but it would also make sense that there are special items added for the Disney 100 Years of Wonder Celebration that has started to appear in Walt Disney World.

It’s also possible that the scavenger hunt remains in place for now as it could easily fit into the Disney 100 theme or a non-specific theme. Time will tell! It will be interesting to see if the theme is an immediate switch April 1st or if this will be a gradual change. What do you think will stick around?

Does your family usually utilize any of these activities at your Disney resort? Are you excited for the Disney100 celebration taking place around Disney properties around the globe?
