It appears Disney World canceled a big Epcot project

This is not good news, but it appears Disney World canceled a big Epcot project.

Epcot Reimagination

Disney is currently working on a major transformation of Epcot. Prior to the historic park closure in 2020, many details about new projects and refurbishments coming to EPCOT were announced. From the addition of the new attractions Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, many announcements have since seen construction and some have even opened for guests!

Some announced projects, however, like the Spaceship Earth refurbishment and the PLAY! Pavilion, have received little press since their initial announcement pre-closure. Others, like the Mary Poppins attraction in the United Kingdom, were totally canceled.

Many Epcot projects were paused or canceled altogether.

PLAY! Pavilion

Located in the old Wonders of Life Pavilion in between the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Mission: SPACE attraction buildings, the PLAY! Pavilion is planned to be an interactive environment for guests to immerse in a “digital metropolis” with favorite characters!

It was said to be “bursting with interactive experiences, favorite Disney characters, hands-on activities, and engaging entertainment” upon its opening!

Canceled?

Despite work being done on the building last year, we have heard next to nothing about the PLAY! pavilion in several years. As Epcot’s reimagination is set to be complete by the end of this year, we are left wondering if this project has been paused or even canceled.

Adding to the speculation, the pavilion is no longer part of the Epcot park map that was released today for Festival of the Arts. Is the project on hold? Canceled? Disney just doesn’t want to get our hopes up?
