Will this new feature improve guest experience at Disney?

There’s a new feature in My Disney Experience now, but it’s unclear whether this will make it easier for guests or be more frustrating.

Some shops are offering mobile checkout rather than waiting in line for check out when buying items. This is done by scanning your items in the My Disney Experience App. The steps for this are super simple. It is very much like when you go to your local grocery store and use their app to pay. Check out the new look in the “Shop In Store” MDE app HERE.

Second, mobile ordering added a new note on the screen. It reads, “The name associated with your Disney account and your order information will appear on your bag and be visible in the Mobile Order Pick Up area.

Genie+ Change

Thanks to a change taking place today, June 8, guests will no longer be able to book Genie+ ahead of time. This will force guests to purchase it as early in the day as possible. So, now the My Disney Experience app will have heavier traffic every morning. Will Disney tech be able to keep with this increased traffic?

Latest Addition to MDE

Today, so many things are new! There’s one more change we saw today. Recently, Cast Members began asking Guests to show their annual pass in the My Disney Experience app instead of showing their physical card or a screenshot.

When opening the Disney World MDE app, there is a new barcode linked to your ticket.

Although this can’t be used for park entry, it can be scanned by Cast Members to see ticket discounts. Do you think this will replace the need to show your Annual Pass? Will it stretch My Disney Experience even further than it already is?

What do you think of these changes? Do you trust Disney tech, or wish we didn’t rely on it so much? Please let us know on Facebook!

Stacey - Genie+ was always available to everyone, on property or not, at 7am every day (Individual Lightning Lane purchases do have an on-property perk). The only change here is people with ticket packages could add it on to their tickets for every day in advance, kind of like parkhopper. Some people couldn't do that anyway, like pass holders. Now no one can add it on to their ticket packages, and everyone who chooses to must buy it the day of use.

So am I correct in thinking that, where it says you can no longer book genie + early, means that the perk of booking it at 7 am if you were staying on property is no longer a perk..of staying on property? Or am I mistaken? Just curious, because we refuse to buy it.

Disney needs to live in the real world. My husband has no apps on his phone because his phone has been hacked multiple times. His annual pass is valid. It was issued by Guest Relations. We will ocontinue to use his passcard to obtain his discount. Disney doesn't need anymore lawsuits .
