Disney World Passholders may need to show other proof to get discounts

Passholders: heads up! You may have to provide other proof of your membership to receive discounts at Disney World.

Annual Passholder discounts

From special events to exclusive magnets, there is so much to love about being a Disney World annual passholder. There are also special discount codes for shopDisney purchases and Disney Resort hotels.

One of the best perks of being an annual passholder is the discounts on food and merchandise. You can receive a 10% discount on table-service restaurants and 20% off at retail locations with your annual pass. This can quickly add up over the course of a week-long vacation to Disney World.

In order to receive any discount at Disney World, you need to show your annual pass or be signed into your My Disney Experience account when applying discounts online. However, that appears to be in the process of changing.

What we are hearing

We are seeing from multiple sources that Disney World Cast Members are now asking Guests to show their annual pass in the My Disney Experience app instead of showing their physical card or a screenshot.

To access your pass, open the MDE app and click on Tickets and Passes. Then you can swipe through to find your specific pass. It will also show what type of pass you have and when it expires.

Disney may be trying to crack down on Guests using a family member or friend’s annual pass in order to receive discounts at restaurants and retail locations.

What we are experiencing

Kenny the Pirate and KtP Writer Maggie are both in the parks this week. Kenny shares that he has not had to show his pass in MDE at retail locations, but he has had to at restaurants.

Maggie shares that she has only had to show her physical card at retail locations and restaurants. She has not been asked to provide proof via the MDE app. It may take some time for this policy change to roll out throughout every restaurant and store in all theme parks, water parks, resorts, and Disney Springs.

This is just something to mindful of on your next Disney World trip! You may be asked to prove your annual pass eligibility on MDE instead of with your physical card.

I honestly don’t care how they want to verify that I am an AP. I just want it to be consistent. In an attempt to be efficient, I will often try to have my AP card ready, only to hear that pulling it up on MDE “is the old way”. I had a CM show me how to add it to my Apple wallet. Only to have the next CM tell me they’d never heard of Passholders adding it to Apple wallet and that I had to show my physical card and ID…only to have the next CM tell me I needed to pull it up in MDE. This was just in February. I’d never heard so many different “requirements” from CMs before. It’s a royal PITA (no pun intended). Get it together, already, Disney!

For years I've always had to show my DL along with AP card to recieve discounts .My name was written by the disney rep . On back of AP card. Not opposed to pulling up MDE but why wouldn't DL be sufficient any longer?

On our most recent trip, I used the AP discount exclusively. It’s too much hassle to dig through my phone and pull up my digital DVC card. While the AP on MDE won’t be as tedious to retrieve, it is still a pain. With their financial resources, Disney should be able to provide guests with integrated software to track who is eligible for discounts, merchandise, etc. Just more jumping through hoops from the loyal fans.
