Disney’s Animal Kingdom to “test” FASTPASS+ ONLY next week!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom to “test” FASTPASS+ ONLY next week!

For a stress-free Disney or Universal Studios vacation, let the FREE expert planners at Royal Carriage Vacations take care of every detail including dining reservations, applying discounts, and onboard cruise credit.

The latest iteration of FASTPASS+ “testing” will require ALL Disney Animal Kingdom guests to use Fastpass+ ONLY.   Legacy or paper Fastpasses WILL NOT be available during this “test” phase.   Guests that are staying at a Disney resort will still be allowed to use the My Disney Experience app, while offsite  guests MUST stop by an in park kiosk the day of their visit if they wish to use the Fastpass+ system.  Offsite guests will not be issued Magic Bands, but will use their RFID enabled ticket media at the Fastpass+ Touch Points.  Any guest may opt not to use the Fastpass+ system and use the regular stand by line.

The “test” is scheduled to begin Wednesday, December 18, 2013

All guests will be able to choose any 3 of the following attractions:

  • Character Greeting at Adventurers Outpost – Mickey and Minnie
  • DINOSAUR
  • Expedition Everest
  • Festival of the Lion King
  • Finding Nemo – The Musical
  • It’s Tough to be a Bug!
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Kilimanjaro Safaris
  • Primeval Whirl

Kiosks are located at:

  • Creature Comforts – outside the store
  • Disney Outfitters – outside the store
  • Expedition Everest
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Primeval Whirl

You can even use this “High Tech” flier to choose your FP+

Animal Kingdom Fastpass+ testing

I recommend the following touring strategy:

Reserve Fastpass+ for

  • Dinosaur or Kali River Rapids,  11:30-12:30
  • Meet Mickey and Minnie  12:30-1:30
  • Expedition Everest 1:30-2:30
  1. Arrive at the gates at least 45 minutes prior to park opening.
  2. Head immediately to Kilimajaro Safaris (then you won’t need FP).   Pick up a cupcake at Kusafiri, if you have time.
  3. Be at Camp Minnie Mickey at 9:45-9:50 in order to meet the characters in this order:  Chip n Dale, Donald Duck, Pocahontas, Baloo and King Louie (If you don’t want to meet these characters or take in the show, just walk to Expedition Everest for a short wait)
  4. Watch the 10:30 am Festival of the Lion King Show
  5. Watch Gi-Tar Dan for a few minutes  (It will be about 11:15 before you leave Camp Minnie Mickey)
  6. Head to meet Dug and Russell and/or Tigger and Pooh
  7. If you chose a Dinosaur FP+, take a ride using said FP+.  If you notice that the wait time is still low, you could switch Dinosaur for something else at the Kiosk.
  8. Head to Dinoland and ride Primeval Whirl and or Triceratop Spin.
  9. Meet Goofy and Pluto (I would expect your wait to be in the 20 minute range, but you still have a little time to burn before the next FP+ is ready.
  10. Meet Mickey and Minnie using FP+
  11. Grab some lunch at Flame Tree BBQ
  12.  Take in It’s Tough to Be a Bug or do some shopping.
  13. Use your Expedition Everest FP+
  14. Watch Flights of Wonder  3:00 pm show
  15. Watch the Jingle Jungle Parade  in front of Flights of Wonder.  It should pass around 4:00 pm
  16. Watch Finding Nemo the Musical

Great plan! Look forward to seeing the others. Quick question: when you make your three selections for FASTPASS+, can you double up on an attraction? Can you reserve two Kilimanjaro Safaris?

No, they don't allow doubling up

I assume the cupcake is an essential part of the plan.

Of course! How else could you survive?

Great touring plans, thank you! Do you have touring strategies for the three other parks with using only Fastpass+?

Working on them

Sounds like a good plan. But I have to say, I'm not liking what the FP+ is evolving into! especially the tiered system, of only 1 headliner at EP and DHS ( so far).

Wow, this is going to be an interesting test. Your plan sounds like a winner. Wish I was going to be in Florida to test it out.
