Disney World Restricts More Free Transportation
The recent news of Walt Disney World bus restrictions appears to be just the tip of the iceberg. It now appears that more Walt Disney World free transportation may be affected.
Disney Springs Transportation

One large perk for Walt Disney World Guests is the use of free transportation. Due to the massive size of the Walt Disney World Resort, this is a much-needed perk for Guests.
If you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, you can take Disney Transportation to Disney Springs. Some Resorts offer bus transportation or water taxi transportation.
For quite a while, many non-Walt Disney World Resort Guests used a loophole to enjoy free Disney parking. They would first park at Disney Springs for free, hop on a Disney bus to enjoy free amenities at a Walt Disney World Resort, and/or then travel to their designated Theme Park.
Disney World Bus Restrictions

Last New Year's and last Easter, Guests were required to scan their MagicBand to board a Disney bus from Disney Springs. We have heard rumors that the Easter restriction was a trial run, and according to Cast Members, this trial went well.
While many predicted that this transportation restriction would return for July 4th crowds, it appears that this may now be a permanent change. Check out this change HERE.
This new restriction led many to question if this may also impact other modes of Walt Disney World transportation.
Disney World Boat Restrictions

Recently, a Guest received confirmation from planDisney that beginning June 28, 2026, Guests boarding Disney Resort buses and the Sassagoula River Cruise from Disney Springs must show either a Resort room reservation, a dining reservation, or a recreation activity reservation.
According to planDisney, Walt Disney World Resort Guests may travel and will not be restricted from visiting any Walt Disney World Resort (even one they are not staying at).
Walt Disney World has not offered an official statement of this change, and it is still only rumored that this will be a permanent change.

Don't care. We stay on property and either drive our car or rent a car at MCO and drive from our hotel to our Disney destinations. Haven't take a Disney Bus in years. Took the Water Taxi from OKW to Springs last time out just because we never had. One time happening for fun. Kind of a time sink if you're looking to get from.point A to point B and it's nothing really special if you've ever been on a smaller boat.
This is a double-edged sword for Disney. They should also let Disney passholders use the Disney transportation since passholders can park for free at the theme parks. Many passholders like to use Disney transportation to shop and enjoy other amenities at the hotel (e.g., the bars) without having a formal dining reservation.
