The Walt Disney Company Confirms Big Job Cuts
This is not the news any employee wants to hear. What do you think of these big changes now announced for the Walt Disney Company?
Josh D'Amaro New Disney CEO

On February 3rd, Josh D'Amaro was named the next CEO for The Walt Disney Company. It was shared that D'Amaro would take over on March 18th, 2026.
Such as when Disney CEO, Bob Iger, returned to the Walt Disney Company in November 2022, there was a restructuring.
Iger announced that the Walt Disney Company will be cutting $5.5 billion in costs. Bob Iger shared that they will reduce their workforce by 7,000 jobs. Iger shares, "While it is necessary to address the challenges we are facing today, I do not make this decision lightly."
1,000 Disney Positions Eliminated

Last week, we heard rumors that big job cuts would affect the Walt Disney Company. Today, this is no longer a rumor. D'Amaro confirms that about 1,000 roles will be impacted.
D'Amaro shared a memo to fellow employees and Cast Members concerning this. "In January, we announced our unifified enterprise marketing and brand organization, designed to serve consumers in an even more connected way."
"Over the past several months, we have looked at ways in which we can streamline our operations in various parts of the company to ensure we deliver the world-class creativity and innovation our fans value and expect from Disney.
Given the fast-moving pace of our industries, this requires us to constantly assess how to foster a more agile technologically-enabled workforce to meet tomorrow's needs. As a result, we will be eliminating roles in some parts of the company."
Disney Job Losses

D'Amaro shares that the Walt Disney Company has begun notifying employees affected by these job losses.
"Compassion and respect remain the heart of our company." Josh D'Amaro
In the conclusion, D'Amaro shares that "Despite these difficult decisions, I remain optimistic about where we're headed as a company."

I hate it when anyone loses their job. This article did not explain from where the job cuts are being made, so I really can't opine on its impact to the business. If Disney were to let go of individuals involved with some of Disney's more recent new creative release disasters, then I would think this was probably necessary, and overdue.
