Disney World Attraction Closing After Multiple Lawsuits

This may be the first time we are happy that an attraction is closing. Find out what we know so far about this new closure.

Any closures for refurbishments during your Disney vacation can be disappointing, especially if it is something your family or travel party wants to do. Refurbishments can impact attractions, hotels, shops, and even restaurants.

Refurbishments are very important and need to happen to keep operations running smoothly.

Disney often uses slower times, such as January and February, to complete many refurbishment projects. We have started calling this period the "Refurbishment Months".

While this is understandable, it is interesting that now two attractions will close at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon less than a month before the water park closes for refurbishment.

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon is set to close on February 15, 2026, and then Disney's Blizzard Beach water park will open for guests. Starting on May 26, 2026, both water parks will be open.

Earlier this week, we shared that Mayday Falls at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon is listed as "currently unavailable" with no reopening date provided.

Now a second attraction is added to the "currently unavailable" list for Disney's Typhoon Lagoon, Humunga Kowabunga. This enclosed slide attraction has made headlines recently, but not in a good way.

Over the years, multiple lawsuits were filed after Guests suffered injuries on Humunga Kowabunga. Although the most recent lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff, Disney filed a permit for "General Construction" of Humunga Kowabunga.

We speculated that work would begin when Typhoon Lagoon closed on February 15, 2026. However, today the Walt Disney World website states, "Starting January 20, Humunga Kowabunga will be unavailable."

Disney has not shared if this permit and early closure are in connection with the recent lawsuit. We hope that much-needed changes will be made to this attraction during this closure.
