Universal President Writes Letter To Team Members Following Guest's Death at Epic Universe

Universal Orlando Team Members have received a letter from the President and COO regarding the procedures followed and functionality of Stardust Racers. Find out what the letter said.

Guest Dies After Riding Stardust Racers

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, an Epic Universe Visitor passed away after a ride on Stardust Racers, the park's biggest thrill ride. According to Universal, the guest rode Stardust Racers and was found unresponsive after the ride ended.

The guest was taken to the hospital for care and, unfortunately, passed away. 

When the initial incident was reported, it was unclear what had contributed to the event. The investigation is still ongoing; however, some findings have been shared.

According to the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office, the Guest, Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, died of "multiple blunt impact injuries." Zavala was 32 years old. The death was ruled accidental.

WESH 2 shared a letter from the President and COO, Karen Irwin, which stated that the internal investigation confirmed that the Stardust Racers ride systems operated as designed. She continued that the equipment remained intact from when the ride began, throughout the duration of the ride, and upon the ride vehicle's return to the station, and Team Members followed procedures. She reminds the Team Members that it is still an ongoing investigation, to support each other through this difficult time, and that resources are available if needed.
