Major Construction at This Disney Deluxe Hotel Causes Disruption For Guests
A big construction project is happening at this Disney deluxe hotel, and it is causing quite a disruption. Find out how your next stay here will be impacted.
Grand Floridian Lobby

The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is one of the nicest and most elegant resorts on the property.
All guests can visit this lobby, even if they are not staying at the Grand Floridian. However, the Grand Floridian has been in a state of refurbishment for the last several years, affecting many of its special amenities.
The Grand Floridian lobby is going through a major refurbishment. One of the most notable changes is the addition of the Grand Floridian Lobby Bar.
Grand Floridian Lobby Refurbishment

The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa lobby is no longer looking elegant and classy, but more like a large construction zone. There is construction everywhere. Right from the moment you enter the lobby, you are greeted with construction walls.

The back staircase was closed off to Guests as you can see in the signage above. Guests were encouraged to use elevators to access the upper floors.

Even the bathrooms are closed that are off the main lobby, Guests are instructed to use the bathrooms near 1900 Park Fare.

You can see that work is progressing with the Grand Floridian Lobby Bar, as the bird cage is completely gone and the base of the bar is in place. You can also see the temporary check-in area has taken over a Guests seating space.
Other Areas Around The Lobby

In the above picture, you can see the now closed off check-in desks covered up by construction walls.

Every direction you turn in the lobby, you can see construction.

The above picture is the backside of the Grand Floridian Lobby Bar.

Even the Grand Staircase is blocked off to Guests. During our stay at the Grand Floridian, we found the second half of the staircase would alternate a side being closed. Finally, they shut down the entire staircase.
Impact On Your Stay

Even with knowing construction would be taking place in the lobby of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa during my stay, I was not expecting it to be so extensive. It was definitely a disappointment to see and hear so much construction in the lobby. I completely understand that refurbishments need to happen, and especially extensive ones, but this was disappointing to pay full price room rates while missing the beauty this lobby holds.
Construction was loud and could be heard and seen throughout the lobby.

The construction noise was very loud (think jackhammers), and very disruptive and distracting for Guests when checking in. Leaving Guests and Cast Members having to yell or repeat themselves to be heard.
We also saw roof work happening at the convention center. There is a lot of refurbishment work going on at this hotel.

This is planned to be a lengthy refurbishment. Don't forget that the large gingerbread house will not be a part of this year's celebrations because of the refurbishment.
If this construction will negatively impact your stay, we recommend staying at another Disney resort or waiting until all of the refurbishment work is complete.
Have you seen the ongoing refurbishment work happening at The Grand Floridian? Would this construction work bother you if you had a stay planned here during this time? Will you push off your stay or stay at another hotel? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to share this post with your friends!

I totally understand the need for the construction but you would think they would have sound barriers for the front desk. You need to go through the main lobby to security to the monorail so a slight discount or a small inconvenience gift would go a long way.
Agree! The Cast Members did a great job, but it was definitely disappointing to see the lobby like this. Thanks for reading!
